When I get to the soft foods stage, will I be able to have rice or noodles? I live in a very diverse city where pho & indian food is highly prevelant so I was wondering if those would be allowed? I know with curries since they're already in a pureed consistency they'll be okay even during pureed stage so as long as I don't eat the meat chunks in it. Unless I shred the chicken? And is tofu and/or paneer (in Indian food) considered soft or can I eat it in pureed stage? I'll of course ask my dietician when I go in tomorrow, but I was curious if y'all had any experience or issues.

re: rice and noodles - I didn't eat those at all for at least the first year. I'm not sure if they'd be considered "soft", but they're not very nutritious and take up real estate in your stomach when you should be filling it with mostly Protein since your protein needs are very high the first few weeks. Also, even at eight years out, even though I do occasonally eat rice and noodles, i can't eat much of either since they sit in my stomach like a brick. So you'll eventually be ALLOWED to eat those things (all my food restrictions were lifted once I was about six months out), but they do bother some people.

What stage are you at now OP? Have you had your surgery and, if so, what surgery did you have?

Hard agree with catwoman7 - until I reached my goal it was Protein first, veggies second, and carbs waaaaay down the line. Even now 20 months after my sleeve and at goal I approach with caution Carbs are what made me obese in the first place, I am NOT looking for ways to welcome them back with open arms. Honestly I would rather have another few mouthfuls of protein or veg now, which have nutrition built right in.

i didnt have rice nor starch-based noodles until close to 1.5 years post op (by choice, not by mandate).

i did have Shirataki noodles though (a non-starch/carb plant-based noodle), and they sat very heavy in my stomach. plus they had zero nutritional value, ha.

when i finally did get around to consuming rice and traditional noodles, like others above, they were/are veerrrrry filling and hang around in my stomach for what feels like forever.

as for whether they are "allowed" it all depends on who u ask. i was cleared for everything (except alcohol) after 1 month.

as with everything, if u really want it, try a bit and see how you and ur body responds. then go from there.

Rice, Pasta & noodles (& bread) were on my do not eat list. They are highly processed, nutrient poor, simple carbs. They take up room in your tummy stopping you from eating all your necessary Protein & other nutrients. I still don’t eat them as they sit too heavily in my tummy, filling me more quickly but that’s me.

Generally, the rule of thumb for eating while you are losing weight is to eat your protein first, then any vegetables you are able to eat & finally any complex carbs you may be allowed. Don’t be surprised if all you can eat at some meals is your protein only.

There are lots of alternatives to traditional style rice, pasta, etc. Cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, vegetable pastas (low carb), etc. are options while in your losing phase. Who knows what you may be able to eat (how much & how often) when in maintenance.

Best advice is to check with your team.

I have to agree with the above comments. I have only started eating rice and noodles after the first year. My program allowed me to have carbs once a week. Even then it was not easy on my stomach specially the rice.

I live in Malaysia where rice and noodle are staple food. If I don't bring my lunch from home and have to eat outside, it is mostly going to be one of these. I take a small portion of rice and load on vegetables and Proteins if served separately. Noodles are usually mixed with the vegetable / Protein so I can't do anything about it.

I love the symmetry of your weight lost to current weight. Such an amazing achievement in a short time

I agree with the above comments. I am 14 1/2 months out from my sleeve and 4 weeks out from my revision to bypass. Rice, noodles, Pasta, potatoes, breads were all HUGE no-no foods for me. There's no nutrients in them, a TON of carbs and calories, take of valuable real-estate in your stomach that needs to have Protein and veggies in it first and foremost. They don't serve any real nutritional value, and there's LOTS of foods you can use to substitute for these that are healthy, bariatric surgery friendly, and DELICIOUS.

I also agree with everyone above. Leave out the Pasta and rice, bread, pita etc and you will have more success on your weight loss journey. All of those are a hard no for me simply because they are not good for us. Plus if you eat them often, your body will crave them.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
