This stall is breaking my spirit.

Recommended Posts

I’m 5 weeks out from surgery, and I have been stalled since 1.5 weeks. I’ve been trying to stay positive and remind myself that this happens and that I just need to stay on track. I know I need to stop weighing myself, but every day I wake up so hopeful to see a change, and every day I’m disappointed. At this point, it just feels like it was all for nothing. I’m just sad.

I feel your pain. Same thing is happening to me. Had surgery June 19th, lost 10 more lbs, and have been stalled for the past 15 days. Everyone on here, though, says to just keep on trucking. As disheartening as it may be, it's very normal. Not that that makes us feel any better, huh? Just know you're not alone in your stall or in how you feel.

Sometimes upping your calories and your physical activity will break the stall. That's what I'm trying, but I'm only gonna weigh myself on Sundays. Wishing you the best of luck! :)

Yep it happens to almost every one at least once. And it is an important part of your weight loss. It’s the time when your body takes stock & reassess your needs with your lower weight. It’s when your body resets digestive hormones & enzymes, your metabolism, etc. They usually last 1-3 weeks but of course sometimes they last longer. It just depends upon what your body needs. Stick to your plan, don’t stress your body more by making more changes than you are required too & the stall will break. It’s not a sign that your surgery has failed or what you’re doing is wrong but a sign everything is right.

Even though the scales aren’t moving, some find their body measurements may change. You may notice your clothes are still getting a little loser. Have you noticed this?

It sucks. I've noticed for me that I stall every 2-3 weeks for about 5-7 days. It's super frustrating. Even with those stalls, I've managed to lose 38 lbs since surgery on May 1st and a total of 53 lbs since the pre-op diet. Stay the course, and you'll start losing again.

Thanks for the support everyone. It’s just so frustrating. Everyone says they see a difference in me, but I’m convinced it’s just the placebo of them knowing I had the surgery and so they think they see a change. Everything still fits the same, and my measurements don’t seem to have changed.

I know I’m still healing and my body is figuring out what’s going on, but man is it emotionally harder than I thought it would be.

I'm in my very first stall and it IS mentally draining. I used to be so happy jumping on the scale and watching it go down .... now it doesn't move and some days it goes UP . UGH ! It's going on 3 weeks now and it's torture ! The only thing that I keep telling myself is " it's normal and you're not doing anything wrong. " This whole process has been a series of waiting games !

I think I’m taking it so hard because I stalled before I even really started to lose any weight.

I was stalled for like a month up until this past weekend when the scale finally reflected a lower weight. I'm four months post-op, and I've had 2 significant stalls (at least two weeks), so I completely understand.

Focusing on non-scale things (energy, less appetite, how clothes fit, extra time to do other stuff, etc) helps, but I think it's completely normal to feel sad and worried. I was scared that I would only have 4 months of weight loss and that suddenly the surgery just stopped working.

These are all normal things to feel, from what I understand, but you're not alone! You will weigh yourself soon and the number will be different and you'll be so happy. I promise! ❤️

Stalls are the absolute pits. We've been through hell and high Water even to decide to have this big procedure, and we take the leap of faith and actually do it, and and and all of a sudden...a big fat no loss. And next day...nothing.

The only way not to see the stalls is not to weigh yourself very often, and I think most of us here are too invested for that! Just come here and complain every single time you hit a stall and we will listen and sympathise.

Everyone here has said it - they're normal and most of us experience them - repeatedly. If you stick to your plan you will lose loads, it just doesn't follow a straight line with a loss every day - your body doesn't do things that way.

I wish you the very best of luck.

I'm right there with ya. Nearly all of the weight I've lost in the six weeks since my surgery, was in the first two weeks. I've have incremental loss, but I've also had gains. I've been stalled for 10 days now, and I, like you, feel like it's too early in the process to not have this weight just falling off considering how little I'm eating. However, forums like this one and a few conversations with my dietician keep me from being totally distraught. We know it's going to come off, but if you're like me, you'd like to get the first 30-40 off quickly to start feeling better. What I've lost so far isn't enough to make me feel substantially better.

Speaking of which, I can't seem to figure out how to edit my profile to track my weight. Is that like a paid feature or am I just missing something? There's no edit button for those stats.

This is a great forum though, so I'm really glad I found it.

I go to the top and click on my name, then "My Surgery." From that page on the left, you should see "My Progress", and that will allow you to track your weight. There is probably an easier way to get to it, but that's how I do it.

Thank you! Not sure why that was so hard to figure out. You would think when you go in to edit your profile, you'd be able to link to everything through there.

You can also scroll down to the bottom of this page to the Together we’ve lost section. It will have your starting weight so you just add your current weight & then click the update your weight button. That ticker will click up with your loss too. It updates your profile which you’ll see on your next post.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
