Long Term - How much do you eat

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to know how much the doctor has told you to eat after you have had the band for awhile, but still need to lose weight. My doctor was pretty vague about it. I've heard 1/2 cup to 1 cup. What do you typically eat.

Ive been banded for over a year now and i must admit i eat a cup of food at a time. I keep hoping to reach that level where a half a cup will satisfy me! In fact i can eat a whole lean cuisine which is probably more then a cup SIGHHHHHHHHHH

Well, let's see. I didn't eat Breakfast. For lunch I got some sushi rolls, about 1.5" across and deep. Average size. I ate part of one about 40 minutes ago and can still feel it there.

For dinner last night, I ate about 1/3 of a wrap made from a normal-sized tortilla. That would probably compress down to about a cup.

If Im getting something like cottage cheese or tuna, I will grab - probably the equivalent of a baby food jar.

So - as you can tell from my example, I don't give a $^#& what volume of food I'm eating. I eat when I'm hungry, and I stop eating when I'm no longer hungry. It's never much food. I think the quanitty thing is a (good) guideline surgeons use to guide those who don't yet have a feel for how much food they need post-op. Once people get to that point, measuring portions seems to go out the window.

With good restriction I can't eat more than 1/4-1/2 cup of food. I supplement with a Protein Shake in the a.m. When I don't have as good restrictioin its more like 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food. I feel satisfied either way.

I eat as much as I like. I don't really take too much notice of the quantity any more, I just eat till I am full, then no more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
