Favorite Foods/Shakes/Recipes

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Everyone!

QOTD is what is your favorite recipe/foods/shakes for your pre or postoperative surgery? I am still able to eat many foods except for carbs still so I haven't delved into Bariatric recipes yet, but I will share mine once I do! For now I've been trying a lot of different Protein Shakes from Premier Protein including chocolate vanilla, chocolate Peanut Butter, cake batter, strawberries and cream and caramel. I love all of them, except for strawberries and cream is not my favorite, but they have been great for when I'm craving dessert! I have one for Breakfast in the morning and I mix it with a scoop of Vital Proteins collagen to keep my skin looking great during this process! I feel like that and my Solgar Biotin and hair Skin and Nails has already been helping. I am big on skin care amd a Sephora "junkie" and can give anyone advice on that!

I just discovered cake batter! Good stuff! Vanilla and caramel are my other favorite flavors.

Scrambles eggs, cottage cheese and regular cheese were my friend in the initial weeks after surgery.

Some people make ricotta bake, which you'll have to Google because I never made it.

There's a reason Shelly's Baked Ricotta is the most popular soft food recipe in the WLS community. It's basically lasagna minus the Pasta and it is amazing after weeks of Protein Shakes and sugar-free Jello. Pro tip: divide the recipe into 8 ramekins or small glass dishes before baking.

That sounds amazinggggg, I saved the recipe, and thanks for the ramekin tip!

You could also try scooping the recipe into a muffin tin. That would make more appropriate servings. Maybe even use cupcake liners for easier cleanup :)

I could add shredded chicken/beef to up the Protein per divided serving. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
