I recently had the surgery on May 25th of this year. So far I have lost 30-40 pounds. However yesterday I weighed and have gained 5 pounds. I have only been eating baked chicken and fish and maybe some steamed or boiled shrimp. The surgeon/Dr. desk lady thinks it may be Fluid based off she said it seems like I follow most of the diet plan.

I make sure I consume no more than 400 calories a day and that whatever juice I drink is only 10-20 grams of carbs. But I don't think my surgery is successful.

Could be Water weight, could be hormones, could be the day of the week, could just be...your turn to have a minor setback. You'll have some fluctuation here and there and as you lose more and the weight loss slows, you may notice it more. This is not a "failure" and it's destructive to frame it that way to yourself. It's part of the process. It's going to be ok. Don't beat yourself up. Don't sabotage yourself. Just keep going.

It's only been a month and a half. Way way too early to decide the surgery has been a fail. You could be having hormone issues, Water weight, or it could be a natural fluctuation. I always gained 4-6 pounds when a stall hit and then when it broke, I'd immediately lose that weight plus an additional 2-3 pounds right off the bat. How is your exercising? How often are you eating? Are you dinking anything carbonated? How are your calories and carbs?

I am back to excercising but i gain weight according to my scale afterwards. I drink tea and gerber apple juice which doesnt have much carbs. I usually drink things under 30 grams of carbs and i keep my calories under 500 a day

The statement "gerber apple juice, which doesn't have much carbs" is making me a little curious.

You've already lost 30-40 pounds ...... I would call that a Rousing Success !!!!! Are you writing down what you eat ? If you are,you can take your notes right to the dietician and they can steer you in the right direction. Might be a simple fix :)

I am a diabetic or have been, since the surgery sugar has been no higher than 98 when I check it. But with that said, I have been trained like other diabetics to count carb count by how much the total grams of carbs are in something by the label on the back with all the nutrient info on the back. Example if its has 25 grams of carb i will drink it but anything else like that for that day I wont consume. I do the same with the calories. I try not to eat something that has more than 300 calories total.

Here's my concern with what you just said. If it says 25 carbs, you will drink it. But what about carbs in other things? Are you staying below your allotted carb count for the entire day, or are you counting the carbs based on each individual item and not the entire day as a whole? Your allotted carbs for the entire day are much lower than they were pre-surgery, so make sure you're paying attention to that and staying at or below your carb amount for the whole day. For me, I can't go above 50 carbs for the whole day, but I tend to stay at around 30 for the day. You have to watch the Protein, fat, carb, and calorie intake now. My nutritionist said my allowable numbers are: Calories - no more than 500 calories per day (based on being where you're at in the process)m carbs: 50 or less, fat: 50 or less, and protein: 60-90g. I just had my revision, so I'll have to start my process over once I'm done with all liquids, but given the guidelines, there's no way I would ever drink anything that was 15, 20, or 25 carbs per serving.

It depends. Usually I drink something with carbs once a day. I mostly drink Water. But I really am suppose to eat nothing with fat which is why I stick to baked or grilled foods like fish shrimp or chicken. I am not allowed any fatty meats.

Honestly, you probably need to measure and track your foods, by using an app, like Baritastic. That way you aren't guessing about anything and can see your cals, carbs, sugar, etc all at a glance.

I dont think the surgery fails as much as we the people fail! I also suggest using the baritastic app for tracking everything you put in your mouth. Sometimes we don't realize how much we are actually eating in a day. I would rather eat my carbs than drink them. You will be more full from food carbs rather than liquid carbs. A lot of the juices, even the one's we are giving our kids because we think they are healthy, are in fact not healthy. Also if you are working out, remember muscle weighs more than fat. On the baritastic app it lets you keep track of measurements such as arms, thighs chest, hips and waist. Maybe measure yourself and keep track of that monthly. You will see a difference in inches lost. That is great encouragement. Good luck to you on your journey!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
