I am struggling please help

Recommended Posts

First of all let me say thank you. This is my second time around I had gastric sleeve in 2012 which was very successful I lost over 200 pounds and have kept most of it off. Because of GERD and severe reflux issues, I had an hitial hernia repair and revision from gastric sleeve to bypass. I am little over one week out and I am struggling. I have to be readmitted to the hospital for blockage in my small intestine because of swelling. I just don’t remember the first surgery being this hard. I am in phase two which is puréed foods and I am regretting my decision please help. Does it get easier I feel so restricte!!

Yes it will get easier but because you are immediately post op and experiencing a complication it may not feel this way.

I hope you have a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

You said it's a little over a week. This is super-early days after MAJOR surgery, especially since you had a hital hernia repair as well. I had a hernia repair with mine and felt like I'd been hit by a truck for a solid two weeks. But it comes with the territory, it's gonna hurt and it's gonna take a few weeks to settle. Complications suck, but the difficult early months and boring food restrictions are short lived. Try distracting yourself, and most of all, be patient let your body heal. It's been through the ringer!

The majority of bariatric surgery recovery is mental. This was hard for me and something I was not prepared for entirely. Your body goes through so many changes, physically and hormonally.
The bright side is that the human body adapts quickly and efficiently.

Give it time and hang in there as others have said. Try to concentrate on the positive that you are on a new path to a new life. Your GERD and reflux issues should be gone and you can continue on with life. A few small issues are just bumps in the road to long term success.

I put off revision for gerd for many years. I'm so sorry I waited so long. I did so much damage. I feel so much better now.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time this time around. But as others said, for some, it is very normal to have a difficult beginning but yours was exacerbated by a blockage.[emoji22] I think you made the right choice and had to get rid of the severe reflux and gerd. You will, with time, live a much more normal and painless life. Hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
