I had a surgery with Mario Almanza and he’s by far the worst! I would avoid at all cost!! I wish I would’ve walked out after 17 patients. I was the last one on feb 20th 2023.

I woke up in so much pain and I immediately complained and they kept saying it’s gas pain. Every way I turned they said it’s gas pain. They called his assistant who spoke English I explained to him this pain is not normal. He said it’s gas pain and there is other patient with more serious problem he has to go see. I was in disbelief.

Im currently 4 months in dropped over 60 pounds not because only surgery because I’m so malnourished. I cannot eat any type of food not even liquid I vomit daily 5x. I’ve been in and out the hospital every other week.

found out dr Mario Almanza cut into my lower esophageal sphincter where acid travel and bile travels freely and I’m diagnosed with severe GERD, gastritis, and damage to my esopgahas. Doctors found stitching also stables in my lower throat area.

I was told there is no fix to this issue I have had 4 dilations. I was told I could get the bypass but it might kill me.

I am young my life is completely ruined I have reached out to Alamnza multiple times no response so I decided to leave public comments on his instagram and he blocked me!

Please avoid this horrible doctor!

A quick internet search showed a lot of issues with this doctor and that you are not the only one. I asked friends of mine to warn about Mario Almanza, and they are planning on adding it to the websites they already created to warn about Mexico Bariatric Center (not Mexicali).

I'm sorry about your experience, and I thank you for the heads up!

I remember hearing about him a few years back. He had several patients die, I believe. I'm shocked that he's still licensed..and I'm so sorry you're dealing with this...

I am so sorry, @Layla1222. That's so hard. I don't know if this is an option, but I'm in the program at Cleveland Clinic's Bariatric & Metabolic Center. My surgeon is well known and respected. If you're looking for another opinion, I would highly recommend. I have some serious health issues, which is why I chose this program. My surgery is in a few weeks, but so far I'm incredibly impressed with the specialists. I wish you all the best, and I'm praying for you now... Don't hesitate to reach out. 💟

Further, (doing a quick google search) i found that there was a class action lawsuit filed in Arizona against Alamanza back in 2018 for fraud and post-op care.

I couldn't quickly find the current status of said case so i gave up...but the lawyer's for the case are from Gregory Law Group. You could inquire if have interest (scroll down and a number is provided to those who have issues with this doctor and are seeking recourse):

OMG have you thought about hiring a lawyer and suing the holy hell out of him? This is life altering, and you will likely need a LOT of follow up surgeries and treatments. I would take him for everything he's got. And refuse to sign anything that would keep the case and the results from being public. EVERYONE needs to know about this.

I’m in Chicago Illinois I have reached out to few lawyers and they said they can’t do much since he operated on me in TJ

That is horrific [emoji22] and it's sad that even with evidence (other doctors who saw the errors), you can't do anything to get compensation for his malpractice because of the location of the operation. Contrary to your lawyers you have contacted here in the US, I think you can still seek a medical malpractice lawyer in Mexico if you have clear proof of the malpractice, and then you can probably get it at least arbitrated.

Really hoping for the best for you and so sad you are experiencing this.

I second what @Tomo said. There has to be a way to hold him accountable. Definitely see if you can find a lawyer in Mexico that will take the case.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
