What is wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm so discouraged. I am on my 3rd fill and have not lost a pound in 2 months (since about 2 weeks after surgery). I eat so much less and better foods (most of the time) but I am still not losing. I get full a lot faster but I do still get hungry a few hours later (to the point of feeling sick if I don't eat). I wake up in the morning and my stomach is growling and cramping like I haven't eaten for days.

I don't know what the deal is but I am so frustrated. I feel like this is going to be another failed weight loss attempt. And they are no help at the aftercare center. They just say "don't get frustrated, you are just getting started" but I see people on here who had surgery the same time as me or after and they have lost 35-50+ pounds and I'm not even at 25 yet. I have been trying to count points (weight watchers) to see just how much I am taking in but I am still very hungry most of the day when I only eat my allotted number of points. I am drinking plenty of Water and getting in my Protein. I see people who can just drink a Protein shake for Breakfast and be fine and I tried that the other day and I wound up eating a banana 2 hours later and was still starving and sick feeling by lunch. Any suggestions or is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Mandi,

Are you exercising? Your metabolism has probably just slowed down and you need to give it a boost. Also, try to cut out the carbs as much as you can...no bread, no sugar, no potatoes, Pasta, etc. I see that you went to benavides who is in the same network as my dr. I will send you a pm. Please don't get discouraged. You can do this!!

I'm with ya'll...I've been stuck since I can remember. Heck I'm even up a few pounds...I'm going to blame Christmas for that. I go today for another fill, and feel miserable even going in there because the scale has went up...not down. It's frustrating. I don't eat many carbs, sugars...hell, I eat healthy 95% of the time! The other 5% is usually sugar free Snacks that I probably should cut out. Grrr!!

I was feeling the same way until I got my 3rd fill. Now I can barely eat anything and the pounds have started to drop. Before the fill, I had been around the same weight for 4 weeks.

I too have slowed on the weight loss. Constipation sucks as well. I get a fill on 1/4/08. I think that's what I need right now but I only lost 10 pounds after my first fill. We can do this gang. I hear that there is a sweet spot that is just the right amount for each persons band fill. I hope we all find that perfect spot soon. Good luck!

Hi Mandy. Im sorry your weight loss is so slow. I was banded Sept.11 th. I dont know if this will help or not. I eat 3 meals a day. They are only 1/2 cup each. 90% protein- 10% veggies or fruit. No sugar foods of any kind. I have 2 Snacks a day. Either a low carb-low fat Protein Bar or a skim milk sugar free chai drink for the ( extra protein) This totals around 1200 calories a day.Not much. If you follow these portions I think youll loose weight. Hang in there. I try to get in 50 to 60oz. of no calorie drinks.Like crystal light. No soda or juice Dont give up. LindaE

xoxo, christie

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
