How long is a protein supplement needed

Recommended Posts

like others have said, as soon as you can meet your Protein requirements through regular food, you can kiss the shakes goodbye. I still have one every day at eight years out, though (although unlike many others, I'm not a Protein Shake hater, fortunately...). I have higher-than-normal protein requirements because if I average less than 100 g a day, my prealbumin level tanks (although this is not very common). I can do it through food if I really focus on it, but I'd just rather have a shake every day and not have to be constantly thinking about whether or not I'll meet my goal. I know I'll make it if I have a shake every morning.

I stopped shakes from purée which was always my intention & they tasted awful. My surgeon & dietician were also a bit freer with hitting Protein goals at first - as long as I was close & making an effort to get closer they were happy. But it is hard when you are eating so little.

To help with my protein I found a high protein yoghurt (20g) & yoghurt drink (30g & which counted as a Fluid too). I had them in the afternoon & ate/drank them over an hour or so. (You can make your own yoghurt drink by blending your yogurt with milk.) I also often ate meals that were protein only some of which was because once I ate my protein I couldn’t eat anything else. I also made my scrambled eggs with milk & made them runnier & the same with rolled oats (made on milk & extra runny).

It's definitely a struggle! I'll plan out my day in MyFitnessPal and it looks great, but the reality is I can't actually eat it all, there's just no room. So I end up having to remove stuff and don't end up meeting my Protein goal. I'm managing 50 to 60 grams on average but my dietician wants me on 80. I guess we just have to do the best we can and not be too hard on ourselves, it'sstill early days for us May babies. I can't do shakes but have stocked up on Protein Bars now.

The Protein Shots are much better than the shakes. I tried a couple bars and didn't like them. As long as I supplements, I make my goals. I need to figure out Breakfast and a morning snack. I think that would help me get off one of the Protein Drinks. The problem becomes, I can't eat a whole pot of yogurt yet, so it seems silly to waste.the room when I can do the drink so much.easier and then go straight into my fluids in the morning.

Protein Water is another option too. Watch the protein bars as many are just glorified candy.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
