Something crunchy

Recommended Posts

I'm craving something crunchy. I'm not allowed raw vegetables yet. What are some good alternative options?

I eat Ritz crackers for a crunch. Even on my pureed diet - you can chew them down to mush ~~~ !

Crackers with Protein, dried chickpeas and Beans, nuts, pumpkin or other seeds. Air fry thinly sliced veg like carrot, sweet potato, zuchinni, beets to make homemade healthy chips. I plan to do that at some stage and eat with dips like hummus, tzatziki and salsa. Cucumber if allowed?

I can't help there being on the other side of the world lol. I'm sure there all good. They're really yum Lindsay! Roasted Broad Beans are good too, they have a slightly nutty taste.

Cucumber wedges. Sprinkle with a little salt. Yum. The high Water content should make cucumber easy to eat & digest. Worth a try anyway. If you can’t have raw vegetables yet, which is so you don’t strain or overtax your digestion, roasted chick peas & fava Beans, & vegetable chips may be off the table too (too dry & coarse) but check with your dietician to be sure & for suggestions. You never know. I was told my vegetables had to be soft & well cooked (almost mushy) to begin.

So I bought roasted chickpeas and roasted edamame. I tolerated them both really well. They are nice because they chew to a very small consistency. My only complaint is that it makes me thirsty because they are so dry. They satisfy the crunch craving, and I get Protein and Fiber, so win. Thanks for all the suggestions! Keep them coming if anyone has other ideas.

That's great Lindsay! I love edamame but have never had toasted ones. I have 4 tins of depodded ones, will have to air fry some.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
