What sort of "good problems" you had after WLS

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. The mid-year sales are everywhere these days and I was trying to buy new shirts and pants online (my latest addiction). The "problem" that I'm facing is that it seems all the brands that I like only had sales on the big sizes (L, XL, XXL) but not M, S or XS. I don't recall this being a problem in the past haha. It must be a good problem to have then.

This made wonder what other "good problems" I had since WLS. Here is what I could think of so far in addition to the one above:

- I'm now working size S shirts. I need to find a brand that makes size XS shorts that fits nicely without being too tight. Two years ago, I was on the other end of the size chart / having custom-made shirt

- We had a refresher safety training at site last week and I was chosen more than once to demo what we learned. I had to climb ladders, go into manholes (mock ones), confined spaces etc. I was never asked to do this before

- I can't use my weight as an excuse for not doing stuff around the house that requires climbing on ladders etc.

It would be interesting to hear yours.

My biggest "good problem" is that I've become a clothes horse. I shop all the time, and I've spent so much money on clothes. I have a lot more confidence, so I spend too much time (and money) socializing. And I take an absurd amount of selfies.

I, too, became a clothes horse;

In crowds people used to just get out of my way, parting like the Red Sea, but now I have to just live with being part of the crowd;

I used to be too large to ride the rides, now I have to ride the rides with my grandkids no matter how much I didn't want to;

Good luck,

Tek

-I don't weigh enough to donate blood anymore.

-I've had two sets of wedding/engagement rings since my surgery and now BOTH are too big.

-I literally shrank my way out of the smallest size my favorite jeans come in.

This is a great opportunity to try new brands @omrhsn. You may be surprised by which look great on you now. I love being able to wear the labels I couldn’t before but always wanted too. My credit card doesn’t like it though 😉.

I think because the average size is larger than we are now, many stores only stock a few of each item in smalle sizes. Hence it being hard to find your size in sales - sold out. I’ve also discovered in high street brands if they go to a Aust 6 I need a 4 but if they do stock an Aust 4 I need a size 6. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can’t donate blood either @pintsizedmallrat. I was shocked when I found that out & realised it’s because we have less blood volume in our smaller bodies. I had the same thing happen with my rings too. It’s expensive to resize them & one couldn’t be sized down anymore due to its design. I bought some clear ring resizers from Amazon & I can wear all my rings without fear of losing them.

I noticed that about crowds too @The Greater Fool. Worse that I’m short as well. In my mind I’m shouting ‘get out of my way ‘ (with colourful adjectives). But I can easily zig & zag around some of the zombies mindlessly wandering around shopping centres now. And in stores with high counters I feel like I have to wave my arms about & jump up & down to be seen. I’ve even had people say oh, I didn’t see you. Hello?!?!

My energy levels are through the roof. Yesterday, I got over 20,000 steps for the day without trying because I can't sit still. A year ago, anything over 5000 steps was an active day for me.

I suppose this another "good problem" but I'm allergic to gold and both rings are an inexpensive but lovely sterling/morganite combo...when my engagement ring became too big it was actually cheaper to just get an entire set than get the original ring sized (although I plan to have the stone reset in a pendant at some point for sentimental reasons). I wear a silicone band most of the time unless I go out; I don't want my good ones to get damaged.

Rings (I wear silicone sizers too), clothes that fit, especially bras, and now I can't use my weight to push boxes lol.

There are no "good problems". A problem is either a problem and therefore not good or it's not really a problem.

So unpopular opinion: there are no good problems - there is only humble bragging.

Have you noticed your opinions becoming unpopular after WLS?
I don't usually label my opinions as unpopular because that would sound like humble bragging. They are just my opinions. Not necessarily true or a fact.

I call them "non-problem problems." 😀

nah, there's also people of like minds just congregating to shoot the sh*t and have some light-hearted conversation with others who "get it".

❤️

p.s. if u really want to see some "humble bragging" check out the OOTD thread (of which im admittedly a regular participant! lolozzzz) but its awesome, and makes me and others feel awesome, so i figure its all good :)

Thank you for expressing your unpopular opinion. Really, without contrary opinions this place would be horribly boring. It challenges us to reexamine what we believe and how we express ourselves.

I can see how some people could view every one of the "problems" here as good things and therefore humble bragging.

A problem is what you make of it.

A "good problem" is life giving you lemons and choosing to make lemonade.

Good luck,

Tek

I'm a reverse clothes horse. Prior to surgery I bought a lot of clothes because my weight fluctuated so much ( not downward either) After surgery I realized how many clothes I had and when I finally went from a XL to med I only bough a few items for the different seasons. I have been wearing the same clothes since 2018, since they still fit me well.

I couldn't agree more. The whole intention of this post was to hear from others who "get it". I appreciate that some people don't.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
