traumatized by puréed

Recommended Posts

Puréed foods have traumatized me 😣

When my doctor advanced me my first meal was mashed potatoes and they were fantastic!

I went on to try some salmon but in the blender and it was the worst decision of my life. The texture was that of a milkshake and it was ABSOLUTELY disgusting.

I never want to experience blended food (besides a green smoothie) ever again in life. Also, tried the ricotta bake but it was only good for a week before I was over it.

So I'm technically still in puréed stage but I'm doing a mushy soft foods instead because I cant with blending food....

I guess I've advanced myself to soft solids (the #1 thing you're not suppose to do 😬) but I've been feeling good and I chew it up really well.

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • mashed potatoes
  • mashed curry chickpeas
  • mashed green Beans

I do know when when I'm eating too fast though:

  • I feel the pain when the food stacks right in my chest and its passing thru my small opening little by little
  • it's hard to breathe
  • What I think is the "foamies"

When this happens I just get up and walk around a bit until it has all trickled down into the pouch

Thanks for attending my Ted Talk!

ugh pureed stage traumatized me too.

on first day of puréed stage i blended up some beef. yes, it looked as bad as it sounds. i took a whiff if it and wanted to barf. then promptly threw it in the bin. was so off-putting i didn't eat for the rest of the day. *shudder*

i decided i would just extend my full fluids stage another week and went straight to minced stage afterwards.

no harm, no foul.

Maybe you used too much liquid in your salmon. I puréed beef with a baby carrot from the roast I made the family & it was surprisingly good.
Make sure you put your fork down between bites. This will help you to eat slower.
Don’t forget about cottage cheese.

I never pureed meat - it sounded too disgusting. It's been several years, but I remember eating a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, hummus, fat free refried Beans, and hummus

someone mentioned eggs - those would work as long as you can tolerate them. Some people can't "do" eggs for the first few months (same with chicken - I don't remember having an issue with it, but I know a lot of people do.

I never pureed any thing either. The thought does gross me out. I ate alot of Greek yogurt with unsweetened cocoa or with blended fruits, hummus with homemade cheese crisps, soft cheeses, cottage cheese with tajin seasoning (yum), tofu, nut butters, avocados... Etc

pureed tinned fish was awful to me too. Try mashed boiled eggs with mayo, denser Soups, runny scrambled eggs, yoghurt, runny instant rolled oats, apple sauce. Try blending chicken with gravy (a friend lived on it). I even had baby food a couple of times for a change. Think the changes to our taste buds &/or sense of smell doesn’t help. Plus many of us just what something to put our teeth in & purées just don’t cut it.

I was also traumatized by the pureed stage! So glad to know I wasn't alone. I did read a comment that said "Don't forget about cottage cheese!" I'd rather eat pureed chicken. And that ain't happening. I am just a little over 2 months out from my gastric bypass. I am still having quite a bit of trouble swallowing, quite frankly, most meats. I have had most success with very thinly shaved deli ham and turkey. I know I'm supposed to be eating 60-90 grams of Protein each day, but I'm not getting it from meat. Fortunately, I love the high-protein Greek yogurt. It is saving my life right now.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
