You should always clear things that you are unsure about with your team. No team has the same pre op or post op diet regime.

Nothing was off my food list even real coffee, lucky me. Some people find that they react badly to some sweeteners, its a bit of a trial and error process. My husband is diabetic so I just use what he has

I use raw sugar, just make sure you include the calories in your daily count

I can tolerate any artificial sweetener, but some people have trouble with some of them. Sugar alcohols (those whose names end in "-itol", like xylitol) are especially known for giving some people problems.

I prefer Stevia when I can, but Splenda (sucralose) when I can't get stevia

Make sure you read ingredients at the grocery store. I'm using a liquid stevia at home right now. Just pure stevia

When did you start adding sweeteners to your coffee/tea ? Im 8 days post op today

I've read that some people's bodies can't differentiate between sugar and artificial but that has never been the case for me. I use Stevia or Torani SF syrups in cold coffees but in hot, just Creamer. I couldn't have caffeine until 5 weeks out.

I also use Stevia or Crystal light to flavor and sweeten my Protein Drinks in the blender. CL uses aspartame. I wish more SF products used Stevia instead. But it is what it is...

SF products are OK according to my nutritionist's plan since day 2. If you don't have one to ask, I think you should be fine. Most everything we eat or drink in the beginning is trial and error anyway in how our bodies will react.

Yep check with your team & watch the sugar alcohol sweeteners. Also you may find things become so super sweet & you can’t eat them when your taste buds temporarily change.

I loved that phase as I never went back to sweet foods or drinks & broke my desire for it - I loved a sweet treat after dinner & on weekends. I keep my sugar intake low (less than 10g a day) and avoid artificial sweeteners or sugar alternatives wherever possible. They only feed your craving for sweet & research is showing that artificial sweeteners actually lead to weight gain, mess up your immune system & cause inflammation so I choose to avoid them. Now if I want something sweet I have some fruit.

I use sugar free coffee Mate. I've been using it since day 1. My preferred sweetener is stevia, but it took a while for me to acquire the taste for it. Now, I love it. At first, I thought it was awful.

I love Lakanto Monk Fruit Sweetener. Its pricier but it tastes very close to real sugar and doesn't have that chemical flavor most of the others have. I was allowed to use sugar free sweeteners right from the beginning.

I use Monk Fruit sweetener. Tastes sweeter than sugar but is recommended for those who are diabetic, on Keto and low carb diets, and have had bariatric surgery. I love it, and I use it very sparingly, so it lasts a loooong time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
