Restless Legs

Anyone here have RLS? I have it so badly that even with medication I still suffer. Eating carbs used to help but that is not an option anymore. I take baths, get regular exercise but I work three 12 hour night shifts a week and switch back to days on my days off. I have researched this quite a bit and haven't come up with a solution. I guess I'm just venting since it is like torture and there's not a lot you can do about it.

I have RLS but mine isn't severe enough for medication (yet). My mother has it badly and has to have medication or she can't sleep at night.

I haven't had an episode in awhile so I'm thinking losing some weight has helped it.

I wish you luck because I know how miserable it can be. I already see signs in my son (14) of him having it too.

Ditto on the magnesium. When I was adjusting doses of a med that causes temporarily sore muscles, I added that in. I used magnesium with malic acid and took some calium with Vitamin D. You might also want to try diet tonic Water for the quinine- though I doubt it is enough quinine to actually do anything.

You could also see about different meds. I don't have RLS, but I do have Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, and I just kick my husband all night long without requip. I tried other meds before that and they weren't for me.

I've been on Mirapex for about three years. It works well for me with no side effects. My wife reminds me if I forget to take my "jumpin' around pill" at night. I also no longer sit and bounce my knee all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
