Odalis 1 Posted June 5, 2023 I got the gastric sleeve on May 10th and just recently about 3 or 4 days ago I have started feeling a burning feeling on my throat after I eat anything. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why I am getting this?& is there anything to relieve this pain? Ty
Breaking notsobad 56 Posted June 5, 2023 I'm not a doctor but it sounds like Reflux (GERD) I've had it for about 30 years but I take medication. I'm pre-surgery and I've been told my DS surgery will pretty much eliminate it. 3 Tomo, sleevedbaddie and learn2cook reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted June 5, 2023 sounds like acid reflux to me, too. Did they put you on a PPI, like omeprazole or pantoprazale? Some surgeons do that automatically for the first 3-6 months to control acid (since it's not good for healing). If yours didn't, and the burning continues, you might want to ask your clinic about it, or at minimum, let them know what's going on. 2 Tomo and Jeanniebug reacted to this
Arabesque 7,414 Posted June 6, 2023 Yep, I think reflux too. Check with your team & ask for a script for PPI as @catwoman7 suggested. I’m surprised you aren’t already on them. If you are may need a stronger dose. It takes time for your body to realise you don’t need the same amount of stomach acid as you did before in your smaller tummy & eating smaller meals. (The acid also can make you think you’re hungry when you really aren’t.) 1 Tomo reacted to this
Tomo 1,194 Posted June 6, 2023 I agree with all the others that it sounds like reflux. I had silent reflux for years. The burning feeling would only go away temporarily after I ate something and then it would come back. Omeprazole worked for a few years, then it didn't. Then they kept switching me to find one that worked. Usually H2s or PPIs and/or diet change will take care of it for most people. Unfortunately for me, I was in the minority and my burning throat no longer responded to anything. After a few more years of misery, I finally had the RNY revision because I was told I was putting myself at unnecessary risk of throat cancer if I continued without revision. Feel better soon. 2 Arabesque and learn2cook reacted to this
