LindsayT 596 Posted May 31, 2023 I can start taking pills tomorrow. Do I need to wait to eat or drink like you would food? How many can I take at one sitting? Thanks!
Arabesque 7,414 Posted May 31, 2023 No hard & fast rules. It just depends on you & how your body reacts. Personally I split up when I took my meds. Like one multi Vitamin in the morning & one at night. Just make sure to take your Vitamins after you eat otherwise you may experience nausea. Having a sip or two of a liquid to swallow a med is generally okay after you’ve eaten or to wait a much shorter time after (like 5 or 10 minutes) & then go back to your usual waiting time. Of course if you are drinking a meal/snack (shake, Soup, yoghurt drink, milk, …) swallow your meds as you drink. Hope it’s an easy transition for you. summerseeker 2,236 Posted May 31, 2023 It took me all day to take my tablets in the beginning because I could feel them as I swallowed. I had a massive restriction. Some people on here had zero problems. Just do your best. Some go down best with a drink others are best with a small spoon of yogurt. I still take gummy vitamins because I like them. I still have suckable Calcium but it takes some getting used to. Out of habit I still break my pain medication in half. I get B12 by 3 monthly injections

Thanks!Depends what pills you are taking, if they require food with them or not, if I understand your question correctly...
catwoman7 11,220 Posted May 31, 2023 not sure what exactly you're asking. I do occasionally take pills after eating - a swallow of Water (enough to get a pill down) isn't going to violate the "wait (x number) of minutes after eating before drinking anything" rule. I take Vitamins twice a day - first thing in the morning and late afternoon, usually. About three or four pills at a time. So yes - you can take multiple pills at one sitting. 1 SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this

For example, I'm the morning I'll take the omeprazole (acid reducer), Multivitamin, B12, D3, and a stool softener. That seems like a lot on my stomach in one go. Should I wait 30 minutes to eat or can I just eat right away. I am 4 weeks out tomorrow.

I'm just terrified of dumping. I had a dumping episode Sunday for the first time after taking one of my medications with applesauce (as I've done since after surgery). I guess I didn't wait long enough to start drinking my Breakfast Protein. It was the most awful pain I've ever felt outside of childbirth. I would really like to avoid that happening again. 1 SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this

Dumping is when you usually have watery diarrhoea with or without vomiting. The body just ejects the sugar asap. The foamies are like a pain in the middle of your chest that feels like a blockage. You usually vomit saliva and foam. I burp a lot. Drinking within an hour of a meal will give me the foamies. I once got a tablet stuck sideways [ that how it felt anyway] and I got the foamies. Once it was because of a tiny bit of Tomato skin, I skin everything now. 1 catwoman7 reacted to this

I spoke to my surgeon about it and he said it was dumping. So, IDK

So, IDK hmmmm...from what you described, it doesn't sound like true dumping, but maybe there was more to it then what you put to paper (or...computer screen!) dumping usually involves things like abdominal cramps, sweating or chills, heart palpitations, and severe diarrhea (sometimes vomiting, too - but that's not as common because the "action" is in your intestines). It's basically caused by your intestines going into overdrive to deal with the sugar. I've never dumped in my eight years post-surgery, but from what I've heard from people who do, it can go on for quite awhile. And once people dump, they're not likely to repeat whatever they did to cause it in the first place!

It was severe lower abdominal cramping that lasted several hours, sweats, dizziness, and almost hyperventilating. It was awful. 1 SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this
Arabesque 7,414 Posted June 2, 2023 That does sound like dumping. Check your applesauce for sugar content - naturally occurring & added. Sugar & fat are the most likely causes of dumping. Maybe your body just decided on Sunday that it’s was too much for you.
