Major Regain

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I had the gastric sleeve done in 2016. I lost a total of 140 lbs. I hit a stall and managed to keep myself at that amount. Fast forward to 2020. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, and had to have my thyroid removed due to large nodules. With all that occurring and being prescribed new meds I started to gain the weight back. As of today I have gained most of the weight back-120 lbs. I am wanting to get back on track and try to lose it back and then some. Any tips or recommendations? Is it even possible to lose all of it back?

I think it’s possible to reset your sleeve and start to loose again. You have to go back to the regimen post surgery and drink two Protein Shakes and 1 meal per day. It will come off. I just lost 50 pounds over 6 month period and I had sleeve 10 years ago. If you have more questions let me know

Yes.

Diagnosis before treatment.

Why exactly have you gained so much weight back? Increase in appetite? Did you start eating different foods and why? Lack of movement and if so, again why? Does some of the medication cause weight gain on top of that?

I need a reset. Think I’ve lost my way and broke my sleeve. Was 90KG dropped to 77Kg after 3 months and pretty much stayed there (+/- 2/3Kg) and back to being miserable in my own skin. Sleeved in September 21. So ashamed that it didn’t work for me. Not really. Wasted opportunity. Need to get my mojo back.

I'm interested in know how you lost the 50lbs. I had my sleeve in 2014 and have gained 20 lbs from my lowest weight. I never really lost all that I wanted or got to my "goal weight" and I just want to get back on track and stay on track that's one of the reasons I joined these support forums to get ideas and accountability partners

Hi just now seeing this. I went pack to basics and intermittent fasting. The two Protein Shakes and one meal is what you have to do to get weight moving. Also you can never eat regular again to maintain the weight loss. That’s what I found works for me. I keep my calories around 1000 or less per day and I’m fine. If I splurge one day I only eat a little of the bad item. Also no leftovers of not good food choice items.

Starting soft food diet today. I was approved 1 cup of coffee if tolerated. It was enjoyable while I drank it, but definitely NOT tolerated! Burning in my stomach and intestines. Any suggestions for coffee substitute other than tea? Has anyone tried those mushroom coffees?

I could also use some soft food recipes. What did you love at this stage?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
