loose skin after gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

@BriarRose I love that story!

On the flip side, my cousin used her inheritance for a Tummy Tuck and I am a little bit jealous. If I had the money, I’d be more tempted, because I do dislike the “flap flap” when I’m exercising.

I’m male started at 325lbs have lost 135lbs to date and the only loose skin that I have is my arms near the armpit and upper thighs. My surgeon put my mind at ease and explained that generally men do not experience the same amount of sagging skin because of where we carry it. Everyone is different in where the weight is but even if I had lots it would still be worth it to have my life back again.

I get that little slapping flap now and again too with certain movements. I think of it as my body applauding my physical efforts. 😁😁😁

Hey John40, we have similar Stats...I am 6ft and 267 lbs. I am hoping for no loose skin, based on what I have been told. I have not been this heavy for very long. So I'm hoping the stretch has not become permanent. I really think it depends a lot on how long you have been at your heaviest.

So I’m struggling with the whole thought of loose skin. I’ve lost 60 pounds already. I’m 5’4. The gastric sleeve was a medical necessity not by choice I have an autoimmune disease. I was 280 now I’m 220 about 8 weeks post op. I was always comfortable in my skin. Now idk. I keep losing and I know that I won’t be able to afford plastics. TMI but I also have big boobs. Always have since high school when I was a skinny. Now I worry I’m just going to be a walking flab. Im getting insecure which is not like me at all. The struggle is real.

Focus on what the procedure will do for your health; it sounds like you're literally doing this to improve your quality of life and even save it. Excess skin is not going to harm you in most cases. You'll have the rest of your extended life to worry about that.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
