Hi all,
i am currently 15 days post op and am transitioning into my puréed stage of food.
Any tips for puréed stage and being at work? i go back to work on the 25th and i work in Daycare/Childcare so a very attentive job. My surgeon has advised i need to wait 30 minutes to drink Water and wait 10 minutes if i’ve had water to eat before hand. As i work this job it’s sort of hard. Any tips on what foods you guys ate im really struggling on this.
I made a mushroom Soup and puréed it and had a teaspoon of it and (TMI!!) regurgitated as the texture was awful.
Please help me 🫶🏼

pureed was the worse for me. I have texture issues and I knew right off the bat I would have a hard time with that. So, I went for foods that are already "almost" pureed by nature so giving them a little extra pureed texture wouldn't be as bad.

I had, refried Beans, taco meat using ground turkey, chili, egg salad and chicken salad.. all pureed.

I also drank shakes so that early out I was barely eating any actual food.

The other tip I have is to try new foods at home, as you probably learned by your mushroom Soup experience. You have to slowly test foods, as some things will bother you.

Absolute worse case, have a shake for a meal at work until you get a little further out and learn what you can eat.

Take your time, be patient. You got this!

I just could never do the Puree stage, I made my own Soups. I added lentils and bacon to vegetables and blitzed it. I added a little cream and found a texture that I could stomach. Just get through it the best you can, it doesn't last forever

I had a hard time with this too. What helped was getting it to a texture I could manage like @summerseeker mentioned. I added taco meat made with turkey (very finely minced while cooking) to refried Beans with some cheese. If it was too thick or dry, I added a little sour cream.

The other winner was pot roast and veggies. I ran it through the food processor with the carrots, onions, celery and broth. The meat was fine enough to add texture but not so fine as to be paste. I made sure there was more meat per serving than veggies, but the veggies and broth helped keep it soft enough to be easy on my tummy. Since each of these made me a few days of meals, I was out of the purée stage before I knew it.

I had yogurts and cottage cheese as Snacks. Some people like hummus. I just couldn’t eat hummus by the spoonful. I need pretzels or something lol

Hang in there! 😊🤞

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
