Hey had my surgery 2/14 and am trying to find good movie Snacks that are fine after bariatric. I am not trying to "regular " snack just for when I go to the movies to deter me from getting popcorn or soda. I have found a few recipes online but am wondering if anyone has insight.

Are you allowed to snack and what Snacks are you allowed? (Check with your dietician.) This is always the first place to begin. I was allowed one snack: yoghurt or a small portion of fruit from early in my third month. You may be allowed other things like hummus, or vegetable crudités, beef Jerky, etc.though most of those can’t be easily taken to the movies. 😉

Will you be at the movies during your regular meal time so legitimately would be hungry & needing to eat? If it is a meal time take one of your shakes or Soup in a thermal cup. Looking to snack simply because you’re at the movies is another issue - eating just out of habit not need.

I don’t eat when I go to the movies even if it’s a meal time. It’s only a couple of hours. I don’t need to snack & I don’t ‘have to’ snack because others are. I take in a bottle of Water & that’s all. But that’s my choice & we all make our own choices.

I am a believer in not depriving myself of food I want. If I want popcorn, I have a little. I have found Skinny Pop or Lesser Evil popcorn will satisfy my desire for buttery, salty popcorn. Also, nuts would be a good idea. I would check and see what your allowed by your surgery center but find healthy alternatives and enjoy yourself. If you make this a diet, will it work in the long run??

I love the Grenad oreo Protein Bar. Tastes so sweet and is good Protein source too. I bring a bag of Quest nacho or ranch chip too

It seems the Bariatric Pal site has some good snack options. Also been curious about Flock chicken crisps though I'd be concerned about the fat content. Those Adkins candies or Russel stover candies seem like a somewhat decent substitute with extreme moderation if you want something sweet.

I'm with everyone else who says talk to your nutritionist to see what they come up with. My nutritionist has been sharing little tricks and tidbits about meals and she probably knows a few good tips about movie snacking too. If all else fails - low fat cheese sticks, nuts, small roll ups of meat and cheese, Protein snack packs (I know Kroger has them, not sure of any other place).

Oh, how are you about protein Water? You can probably use that instead of soda. Or get a bottled water and a sugar free flavor package as a treat.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
