Does anyone have metal allergies? I have metal allergies and had stainless steel pins put in my broken finger about 25 years ago and had an allergic reaction and had to have them removed. I am terrified that they use titanium staples to close the stomach and that I will have a reaction. The surgeon seemed unbothered and said it's never happened. When I google titanium allergies, it is possible, but not highly common.

I can't seem to get over my anxiety over this to the point that I want to cancel. HELP!

I'm not 100% sure but I think my son has metal allergies. He had a medical device implanted years ago that had to eventually be removed before his body would heal. It was not ever confirmed by the doctor but I think he was afraid of being sued. (they started giving him the fancy hospital suites for free after his second dehiscence. he had a total of four b4 they removed the device.)

So, yes, it happens. This probably doesn't help your anxiety and I'm sorry for that. You should make it very clear to your doctor that you have these allergies, period.

ask your surgeon. I know titanium is used a lot in surgeries (screws, clips, staples) - I have some of all from my plastic surgeries. I don't know what kind of staples they use for WLS, but probably titanium there as well. Just ask - they may have some alternative for people who are allergic to it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
