Getting Excited

Recommended Posts

Though I don't have a surgery date, yet exceedingly excited without content for where this journey is about to take me...

I'm already browsing clothes I've had my pockets waiting for since forever (if ever). Boutiques that only sell small, medium, large. Reminding me of how retailer 5-7-9 in the movie Mean Girls got its name.

A shop that focused its collection on three sizes 5, 7 and 9.

I'm browsing online clothing stores too. Dreaming of the day I can fit into something other than oversized tees and yoga pants. 😌

Clothes browsing and wish-listing was honestly the best distraction and motivation pre and post-surgery. You'll be startled by how quickly you shrink through the sizes on your way to goal! Absolutely advise buying second-hand during the losing phase where possible, because the window of time with each size down is maybe a month or two. I ended up passing on items to goodwill that I didn't even get to wear!

I do still have a few "when i lose this weight" items I've had in the back of the closet that were suppose to be my motivation 😂

I've yo yo'd my entire life and kept most all my clothes over the years in sizes all the way down to 12s, hoping to one day fit back into them. It will be fun to clean closet with sizes going down rather than up. 🙃

I have clothes in all the sizes up and down too— i realized i needed help when i had to keep going bigger. I’m a month out and have retired several sweaters I just got at Christmas, a pair of work slacks and a pair of Jeans. Hoping to have enough on hand as i work my way down… but totally agree to buy used. eBay, Mercari, PoshMark— local consignment stores are my best friends anyway. Never hurts being green- but especially when you are changing sizes.

Have fun!

Don't buy too many, because I've had to have 3-4 rounds of donating things because every time I think I'm done I end up losing more.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
