I cried like a baby!

Recommended Posts

I started this journey in late August of this year. I went to all of my required appointments, started my 2 week liquid diet, and was scheduled for surgery on 12/26. The only problem was I hadn't received insurance approval yet. Anybody here knows that waiting for insurance approval is torture. The not knowing if my surgery would be covered has been the most difficult part of this whole thing, even more difficult than two weeks of liquids. Well, I just got off the phone with the surgeons office and .......I'm Approved. I actually cried on the phone with the receptionist and then sobbed when I called my husband and twin sister. I am so excited and I can't wait to begin my new life after surgery.

My advice for anyone who is still waiting on insurance approval is to hang in there. Don't be afraid to call the surgeon's office or your health insurance co. to check the status. You know the old saying, "The sweaky wheel gets the oil".

You know, all of us have put so much into this procedure. Now the question is, will we stick with it? I know if you all have the same determination and drive that I have we should have no problems!!!! I'm looking forward to the new year!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
