JustJovi 7 Posted March 17, 2023 Hello! This is my first time postimg on here.I've had an IUD for 3 years now, with no complications. No periods either I had VSG on March 1st, and have been spotting here and there.Today I woke up and basically am on my period! Super strange! So I went to the ER (no gynos had appointments for months out) and they took blood work and said everything was fine. They also took ultrasound and said my IUD was where it needed to be and nothing looked abnormal. The doctor suggest it might have been my body reacting to this new stressful experience of having to recooperate from the procedure.Has anyone else heard or this or experience anything like it's?Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
Arabesque 7,413 Posted March 17, 2023 Could be an oestrogen surge. Oestrogen is stored in fat & as you lose weight it is released into your blood stream & general messes your usual cycle up. Heavier or lighter periods, more or less frequent cycles, more or fewer PMT symptoms & for you maybe a breakthrough bleed. All very common. I’m menopausal & all my symptoms went away. It was wonderful. Unfortunately, they all came back when my weight lost slowed & I was close to goal.
SleeverSk 635 Posted March 17, 2023 Yes ! I hadn't had a period for 6 months before surgery and was well into perimenopause with irregular periods. Then bingo the next day full blown period and regular periods ever since
Bstoff 9 Posted March 17, 2023 (edited) I had not had a period in almost 3 years. My gyno. had said I was in menopause. I had surgery Nov 8 and have had a period every month since. I was told the trauma the surgery causes your body makes the hormones to go crazy. Edited March 17, 2023 by Bstoff 1 SleeverSk reacted to this

catwoman7 11,220 Posted March 17, 2023 as others have said, screwed up menstrual cycles are common the first few weeks or months after surgery due to the hormone surge. Some women report hormone-related emotional weirdnesses, too. It should all stabilize once your rate of weight loss slows down.

SuziDavis 546 Posted March 17, 2023 The joys of Hormones. I think a lot of us women have issues with spotting and our periods being off schedule after.
pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted March 17, 2023 I had two very heavy periods very close together following my procedure and then didn't get a period again for six months. Our bodies are wily things.
RaiderRhode 36 Posted March 17, 2023 Definitely hormones. I had switched from the pill to the Nexplanon insert about a month and a half before surgery. I bled for a month after I got it implant and then the day after surgery I started spotting again. My spotting lasted.. a long time. Between the hormone changes from the implant and the surgery, doc says its all normal.
Desiyah23 4 Posted March 17, 2023 I had my conversion to bypass surgery on 2/28 and have been spotting since. Has something to do with our hormones and the sudden rapid weight loss. I also have an IUD.Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Ashley Amari reacted to this

Ashley Amari 18 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) I’m so frustrated😭😭😭 I am one month post vsg and pretty much have been bleeding the entire month. I have an iud and didn’t have cycles prior to surgery. I went to see OBGYN and was given a 14 day supply of estradiol. It has not helped. This is just the worst. I have literally bled 22/30 days. I just don’t know what to do. Edited August 13, 2023 by Ashley Amari

I just know I’m so tired of bleeding. I’ve also been checked by OB and there’s nothing abnormal. Surgeon didn’t have any insight on situation . Some one please tell me this gets better.
