Dietician doesn't like that my Bariatricpal multi's have 3g of sugar

Recommended Posts

My dietician is great and has helped me, though I privately question if she's just a little stricter than necessary when it comes to sugar grams. She's fairly fixated on the idea that things should contain 1 gram or less of sugar.

When I showed her a printout of the nutrition label on the Bariatricpal multi's I ordered, she told me they have too much sugar. She actually told me I'll have to replace them with another option that has less sugar. My jaw honestly fell open a bit. I was agreeable so as not to offend her, but I just think she's being unnecessarily strict.

The Bariatricpal multi's meet or exceed (often exceed) the specific nutritional values specified by my program, and since I purchased a year's supply all at once, their price is the best. I'm going to continue taking them.

I know my dietician is far more knowledgeable than I am but, sorry, 2 little extra grams of sugar is just not a big deal to me.

Let's just say that there are dietitians and dietitians just as there are surgeons and surgeons.

I'm sorry but this obsession with sugar and carbs is just ridiculous and it's sad that even professionals are not immune to the anti-carb propaganda.

that's a great way of putting it!

I personally wouldn't worry about the extra two grams, either. She's obsessively restrictive, in my opinion. It's not like it's a bowl of ice cream! I probably shouldn't say this because I often preach that people need to stick to their plan, but my last dietititian (who just recently left - haven't met her replacement yet) was really into "intuitive eating" and hated the fact that I count calories. HATED it. I finally just quit letting it come up in conversation. I'd smile and nod. I know intuitive eating works for some people, but I know myself - I'd intuitively eat my way back up to 300 lbs again if I didn't constantly monitor my calorie intake (and it's not like I punish myself if I go over some days - that's life - but overall, there's a certain level that I try to average). That's worked for me. I'm not going to give up something that's worked for me.

your dietititian reminds me of people who fret because their Vitamin has 20 calories in it. ARRRGGH. Just walk from your bedroom to your living room and you'll probably burn that off...

Ah yes, I was on the fence as well but some things simply shouldn't be left uncommented.

4 months out and mine won’t allow me a low carb tortilla yet

That sounds unreasonable. By that point I'd like to at least have one fajita or taco...?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
