Perimenopause/menopause

Recommended Posts

So just wandering if this has happened to anyone else. I was well and truly on the way to menopause before surgery, I hadn't had a period for six months and hadn't had a "regular" cycle for over 12 months. The day after surgery I get a period ok that's fine but as I lost weight my periods start to become semi regular again ??? I am 56 and thinking they should have stopped by now. So just curious if this has happened to anyone else

From what I understand, hormones are stored in fat. When we lose weight, those hormones go into our blood. So, things that may have stopped functioning the way they were supposed to - because of the weight - begin functioning again. :)

I had the same thing happen. It had been over 4 months since my last period and a year of it being unpredictable but since the surgery its back to its monthly self. I was looking forward to it being gone too lol.

Another one of those everyone’s different things I think. I understand they can continue to be erratic for a while for some. Have you had a blood test to check your hormone levels? They’re a good indicator of what stage you’re at. My GP checks my levels every now & again as a comparative even though I very menopausal.

My mother is 83 & still takes HRT. If she goes off them she gets hot flushes, becomes cranky & argumentative, etc. She often laments wasn't menopause supposed to stop 20 years ago (& she started having symptoms in her early 40s - wasn’t pleasant either). Thankfully I haven’t followed after her & our peri/menopausal experience has been very different.

My period has become more regular again, and I think I was in perimenopause before hand. I think being healthier makes your body go back to a healthy(yet annoying) cycle.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
