i think i hurt myself?!

Recommended Posts

Hi there... question...

Should I be concerned?? I had surgery 3 weeks ago... was feeling fine... healing well. And i know I'm not supposed to do any strenuous things for a couple months.. however i had to move out of my house. I got some help... so I didn't lift very heavy stuff but I was lifting and packing a lot and going up and down stairs. And then i was getting something up high out of a cupboard and I felt a little pain when I stretched really high. and for the last couple days I've been feeling a little pain right by the port area. It feels kind of like it did the first week after surgery. I'm a little scared... i have an apointment in six days for my 4 weeks follow up. should i call the doc. I hope I didn't do any serious damage!!!

what do you think?

I had lots of those little pains the first few weeks . But if you are worried at all, you should call your docs office. Donna

I did the same thing. Reaching really high was a little painful. Be sure to rest, and get someone to help you UNPACK. the little pains are pretty normal, but if the pain persists or gets worse, call the doc. I lifted to much Christmas shopping, and I was sore for a couple days. My already healed incision also pulled open a bit on the corner. So you CAN overdo it. I didn't have any pain, and I watched for infection. Just listen to your body.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
