Medication for goute

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what meds I could take during a goute attack since generally they say to take meds with nsaids or give you indomethacin. However I was told before surgery I can't take any of those. I do take allopurinol once a day (300mg)

Talk to your surgeon. I was allowed to take Nsaids for a limited time(Took 800mg twice).

It was explained to me that once in a while is ok but try to stay away from them as regular use could cause ulcers and/or other problems.

Your surgeon may allow you to take them just for your flare ups.

Please understand, I am not TELLING YOU to take them. I am just sharing my situation. Be sure to get a your surgeons permission before doing so!

I would re-open discussion with your medical team.

There are lists of medications flying around the internet that claim to be medications Weight Loss patients can't or shouldn't take. "Everyone" knows you should not take NSAIDs. Nonsense. Only your medical team has a say in what you may or may not take, and even that should be based on your personal situation.

I am able to take NSAIDs as long as I treat them like every other medication I take: Know the negative side effects and monitor carefully. As with every other medication, there are ways of mitigating negative effects, which I also do. On the flip side, Tylenol (generally declared safe) is one of the few meds I was warned to be very careful of because of liver issues. I still have leave to take it occasionally.

Often it's better a risky medication that helps than no medication that doesn't, especially with pain inducing situations.

Good luck,

Tek

I would say speak to your team. We were told to avoid NSAIDs since our stomachs are smaller and the risk of ulcers higher, however if we were prescribed it we are allowed to take it for a period of time.

My father took that, as zyloprim, every day but never had to take NSAIDS as well. Once on Zyloprim he rarely if ever had an attack.

But definitely speak to your surgeon & prescribing doctor. I think it was in my second year my surgeon said I could take a NSAIDS very occasionally as a low dose. One tablet not two. Not on subsequent days & not regularly. Rarely take one but did take one tablet a night immediately after dinner for three nights in a row when I had COVID.

My surgeon says after 6 months if I need to take an NSAID I should take it with a proton pump prohibitor to be on the safe side and limit to 3-5 days at any time but he was less concerned by casual use than anything I’ve ever seen online!! Surgeon will guide you (like others, my advice is based on my surgeon, I’d never tell anyone what to do )

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
