smc124 118 Posted February 21, 2023 Hi all. My sister is getting married in November and I’m her maid of honor. I will need to order my bridesmaid dress for her wedding by late May. I will likely wait until as close as possible to deadline to order. I am going to probably err on the size of larger size and rely on tailoring or even possibly get two dresses. I roughly know what size I was when previously in the weight range I think I may be by November but it’s all a bit of a guessing game. Anyone have first hand experience doing something similar? pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted February 21, 2023 (edited) Man, that's a hard thing to predict....if you would have asked me a year ago what size I thought I would be by now I would have been WAY off! I would probably err on the side of too big because it's going to be easier to take in a dress that's too large than to let out a too-small dress (if it's even possible, because it often isn't.) I would wait until much closer to the time of the event to get it altered, maybe even reserve a spot with a tailor in advance and explain the situation as to why you can't get it done sooner. They may make you pay in advance but at least you know you'll have your chance to get it altered in time. ChubRub 1,709 Posted February 21, 2023 (edited) Are all of the bridesmaids wearing the exact same dress? Maybe since you are the MOH, your dress could be a little different, which might allow you to purchase something off the rack instead of having to order it months in advance? Not sure where you are on the process, or how much you currently weigh, but it wouldn't be unheard of for someone to go from a size 20 to a size 4, between now and November! Many on here have done similar in that same timeframe! Edited February 21, 2023 by ChubRub 3 smc124, Arabesque and summerseeker reacted to this
The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted February 22, 2023 Not ever having had to worry about wedding dresswear, I have to believe there is a "rush order" possibility that would allow you to order much closer to the wedding for an additional fee. I just googled and this seems plentiful. Not everyone plans months and months ahead and companies love making extra money because of it. ShoppGirl 5,018 Posted March 2, 2023 I would ask the tailor how many sizes too big it could be and still be altered to fit properly and go from there. Possibly getting a couple sizes like you mentioned. 1 smc124 reacted to this
NP_WIP 274 Posted March 3, 2023 I agree on holding off until the latest day to order. Even losing to a size you have been before, your body composition can change, and you can lose more inches here and there.
