Brain Fog after RYGB Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I had my RYGB surgery on 2/14/23. I am just wondering if anyone else had or has issues with brain fog since surgery? If so how long did it last? The only thing I am taking is OTC Tylenol, my bariatric Vitamin, Wellbutrin, Colace, Phillips colon health and just started the actigall today. I am also getting 62+ ozs of liquids in me daily since Sunday.

I don't think we give enough thought to how big this surgery is. Just because we are in hospital a short time, we think its less than it is, I did. The anaesthetic alone will make you woolly headed. If you are in any doubt, ask your team. You are doing so well with your liquids, WTG

^^ that's what I was thinking - might still be the effects of the anesthesia

An extended and dramatic calorie deficit, common in early post-op, can also be part of the problem.

Good luck,

Thank You Tek. That didn't even cross my mind. Does it get better once puree and soft foods are entered back into the diet?

I was wondering if that could have been the issue. I also had to get 2 bags of magnesium before discharge as well as something to replace phosphorus levels. I spoke with the Dietician and she asked if I had been drinking a Gatorade a day and I said no. She suggested me drinking one to see if that helped. I got through half a 20 oz and alot of the brain fog went away.

You may not be sleeping as well as you should right now, which can contribute. It took me weeks to get used to how I could lie at night without aggravating my incisions.
