Hi! This is my first post. I am getting my surgery date later today for the gastric sleeve. I have a rough idea of the time frame so I was looking at flights. 3 hours away from me and I could save 800 dollars for my mom and I. I have the money for the more expensive flights but do love to save. Will I feel good enough 3 days afterwards to ride in my vehicle for 3 hours? The big airport by me is an hour away so I will be in the car regardless. Thank you in advance!

It will be on the rough side... but at least in a car you can stop as often as you like to take a break. Seatbelt may not be a good thing to wear.

I had sleeve surgery on a Wed and drove home on Thurs - 4 hours away. (well I didn't drive, my husband did) We stopped every 45 mins so I could walk (to prevent blood clots) I had no issues, but will 2nd the suggestion of making sure you have pillow for your lap.

I had surgery on Monday and was discharged Wednesday evening. I worked with the nurse to time my last pain meds for right before discharge to help with the 1.25 hour ride home. Definitely second the pillow idea. I asked my husband to bring one and he forgot and i really wish I had one. You never realize just how rough the roads are until you feel every little dip and bump.

If I were you, I'd drive way before flying. The air pressure changes with flying might cause a lot of pain if you still have gas build up (which you likely will).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
