Bariiime 15 Posted February 13, 2023 Hi All I was recently sleeves on 1/26/23. I was very excited and anxious for the procedure to jump start my progress. Fast fwd since surgery I have been having a hard time. When I graduated to semi soft foods It been rough. I haven't been able to keep anything down. It's been so bad that I was informed that it would be best that I go back to the previous stage of liquids only. I'm starting to feel down about getting the procedure. I been vomiting, having heart burn, discomfort trying to drink Water, stomach pains, unsuccessful attempts to belch. I've been so frustrated trying to explain this to my Dr. She look at my like i'm crazy and it's hard telling someone the complications I'm having who have never experienced it. Have anyone else had this issue? Like water hurt when I drink it.. it's like so rough when trying to go down like i feel pain while it's traveling and when it finally settle. I'm going crazy please help. My Dr said she will order a upper GI so we will see. I feel like I may have dumping syndrome- although I haven't eaten anything sugary or with fat. I was told dumping syndrome mostly only occur with bypass patients. As in I shouldn't be having that issue but I feel like I do. If i try something as simple as yogurt it come right up like fast within a few minutes and I experience all the issues notes above. I be bent over trying to deal with the pain when this is happening. Any suggestions, tips or advice is welcomed.
NettyD 93 Posted February 13, 2023 I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. Im still I’m the pre op stage so I have no feedback 😟 but I will follow this thread to see what feedback others provide. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
catwoman7 11,221 Posted February 13, 2023 that's definitely not dumping. Does your doctor have you on a PPI, like omeprazole? Many of us have to take that for the first 3=6 months while things are healing up. The endoscopy is a good idea - that will tell them what is going on. 1 summerseeker reacted to this
pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted February 13, 2023 First off, I am another one of the "lucky" sleevers who dump, we're less common than RNY patients but we exist. Secondly, I was about where you are at 3 months, could barely get 200-300 calories down and certain things would not agree with me AT ALL (specifically eggs and potatoes, and I'm 16 months out and still have problems with potatoes). I had burned my esophagus with stomach acid due to really bad acid reflux, and it took quite a while for me to heal. I'm doing fine NOW, but I feel your pain and I hope your doctors are taking your concerns seriously. Be a squeaky wheel until you get answers. Sending you warm thoughts; I know it sucks and the only way out is through. Stay strong! 1 Bariiime reacted to this

Bariiime 15 Posted February 13, 2023 oh no pintsizedmallrat I'm sorry to hear this. Ouch that seems like it hurt badly! While I hope you're doing better.. I feel better knowing that someone else have gone through what I'm going through it gives me hope!! :) I can barely get down 20 ozs a day. One day I only managed to get 4 ounces and was threatened with being out back in the hospital as if I was being a brat and didn't want to drink purposely. Thank you sooooo much 1 pintsizedmallrat reacted to this

Thank you sooooo much Introduce things slowly and in reasonable amounts as you try to expand your diet. Honestly, the thing that helped me the most was when I ended up in the hospital, ironically. They had me receiving the same tray that elderly people who can't chew/swallow well receive since I was still on purees/soft foods, and it gave me a chance to try a few things I hadn't thought to introduce into my diet. I may have only been able to eat a tablespoon of those peas but I found out I could eat them! 1 Bariiime reacted to this

Protonix is a PPI, too, so you're fine from that angle. They'll be able to tell once they do the endoscopy if there's something weird going on. Sorry you're dealing with this! Arabesque 7,442 Posted February 14, 2023 So sorry you are experiencing this though some of what you’ve mentioned can happen. It’s not uncommon to struggle with purées to begin & will go back a stage for a week or so. You’ve had a pretty major surgery & your tummy is healing & we heal at our own pace so you may need longer on each stage. Your tummy can be very sensitive to lots of flavours & textures for a while, causing you to bring up what you ate or be nauseous. So it can be quite a bit of trial & error to begin before you are further a long in the healing process. Are you taking Multivitamins yet? Many can make you feel nauseous & cause yiu to vomit. Ensure you take the. After you’ve eaten or with your last sip. Try a different brand, formulation or try swapping to gummies or Patches. Try warming your Water (room temp or more) as many of us find warm drinks more soothing than cool or cold. Ensure you are sipping/eating slowly & are keeping the sip/bite small. Sometimes further thinning out purées can make them easier to tolerate. Add additional gravies or stock to your purées or milk to your yoghurt so they’re more runny than dollop like. But it is a good idea to go ahead with the endoscopy to ensure nothing else is happening. And maybe try a stronger dose PPI.

Today have been the best so fat. I've managed to keep down the 8 oz of Water and 6 oz of Protein throughout the day. I'm hoping to get more relief soon. I was thinking maybe it's taking me longer to heal. My upper GI look normal my surgeon said. So she will still schedule me for the endoscopy next week. So I hope it will be fine as well. xoxo
