I was banded on Nov. 13th and was able to sleep on my stomach about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks post op. Then I pulled or agrivated my port side and couldn't sleep on my side or stomach for about 2 days, but now I feel like nothing has been done and can move into any position with no problems.

Hope this helps,

Ari

i am a side/stomach sleeper, mostly 1/2 and 1/2 at the same time... and the side i sleep on is my port side.

the first couple of days after surgery, i only slept on my back. after that, i tested it and did fine on my normal sleeping.... one weird thing that i felt was when i switched sides, it felt like my insides were literally shifting as well ... really weird.

I haven't had my band yet but will be curious to see how I feel as I am mainly a stomach / stomach-side sleeper. I am a very still sleeper (DB actually woke me up once because I was so still he thought I was dead or something LOL). It took me a long time to be able to learn to sleep on my back and what finally got me that way was when I had my breast reduction about 6 years ago. I find now though that when I sleep on my back when I wake up in the morning I do not feel rested. Not sure why. So I try to not fall asleep on my back as I will likely stay in that same spot until my alarm the next morning and end up with a very unrestful sleep.

I used to love sleeping on my tummy. Not as much anymore. I do it sometimes when I just can't fall asleep, but I feel like I'm sleeping on a big marble if I'm positioned just so.

Hey ya'll, i just wanted to put this out there...

i sell beds and we have to do a ton of research on sleeping patterns so that we can help our customers. If you are a stomach sleeper, its probably because your bed isnt giving you the support you need, so you feel like sleeping on your stomache will take the pressure off of your back. I know for the ladies with larger breasts (like:rolleyes: myself) the reason i used to sleep on my tummy was because i was being suffocated by my own chest, lol. Its really hard carrying extra weight and trying to allign your spine correctly so you sleep well... from what i have seen, if its uncomfy to you to sleep on your back or side, then your probably sleeping on the wrong bed set. My personal fav is tempurpedic. i'll let you do the research on it, but its pretty awesome, and i sleep so much better now... lol not to sound like a commercial, i just wanted to put that out there.... good luck sleeping better :)

Hey there,

i was banded on the 14th and have been able to sleep on my tummy no problem (I asked the doctor before and after the surgery because this was actually a worry of mine) with my muscles being sore, I just feel a little like a turtle trying to "right" myself in the morning, I take it slow and may look silly but at least i am a well rested Silly.

good luck to you

Peace

Spiffy

I am a side/stomach sleeper who was on heavy meds in the hospital over night. I was able to sleep normal but the hardest thing was turning too fast. I twisted too fast on post-op day 5 or 6 and it hurt like crazy. Other than that Ive been fine and was more comfortable than when I had gyn surgery

I can sleep on either side and on my stomach. Occasionally, when I'm on my left side it feels a little weird and then I shift to right side and later I'm ok for either side again!

3 weeks post-op yesterday.

Banded 11/27/07

First fill 12/20/07 Tomorrow. I know I need it.

Self Pay, That hurt the most!

Highest/At surgery/Current/Goal

230/ 212 / 202 /Whatever I can acheive and maintain.

Fingers crossed it's 140

5'0" Goal should be at 120 but that will never happen. I'm a realist!

I am not banded yet...but I am a stomach sleeper..

I do have a good bed....even when i weighed 120 lbs I was a stomach sleeper...always have been....

this reminds me of my pregnancy and how it bothers to sleep on your stomach...I am sure it is like anything...once you get to a point..you don't care...you just fall asleep...on your back like never before!

I am a stomach sleeper. I'm 3 weeks and 2 days out from surgery and I just got back into my bed part time yesterday. I only slept a couple of hours on my side and partly on my stomach.

Pain wise, I could have done it sooner. It didn't really hurt. I slept in my recliner for all these weeks because I wonder sometimes if all of the port revisions and maybe even sometimes slips have to do with aggrivating your port and band by putting pressure there before it is fully healed. I thought that I would feel better knowing that I didn't sleep on it until the stitches were fully healed and the port and band were firmly in place.

I know that I tend to switch sides a lot in my sleep and roll around and turn over a few times a night and I just felt better knowing that I was "comfortable" in my recliner with no pressure or stress on my port or band while in the healing phase.

I'm a week out and I have been sleeping on my side with a pillow proped up against my belly. I really want to turn on my stomach...but I know it will hurt. I have to wait a little while longer I think!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
