The BEST protein dinner - even could be a mushie!

Recommended Posts

I just found the best chicken ever. It is from trader joes and it is shredded BBQ chicken. It can be found in the refridgerator section and it is delicious!

The best part is the nutrition information - for a 1/4 cup serving it is just 70 calories, 1 g fat, 7 carbs and 7 protein!! My family has the chicken on toasted Buns but I just eat it in a small bowl.

It is shredded very finely so I think it would even be good for the mushie phase! Enjoy!

I went grocery shopping after reading this thread this morning and found a similar item at Winco under the brand name "Lloyd's" ... they are bowls, in the refrigerated section and come in either shredded chicken, beef or pork BBQ. Cost was just under $5 (each) ... Haven't tried it yet, looks good though :)

Kroger's carry's this in Houston. I think it may be the Lloyd brand - not sure. It is in the refrigerated section near the meats in a plastic tub, in the different flavors mentioned above.

I've had them before - they are very good!

I never thought about this as a post band item - thanks for the idea. I was eating some regular chicken today and was thinking "there is no way I will be able to chew and swallow this post band". Of course, its probably my lack of cooking skill - my chicken breasts never come out as good as taste at a restaurant. Of course, they soak it in brine (salt)!

I saw the Lloyds brand as well when I was at the store and read the label and it seems to be very similar (only 70 calories for 1/4 cup.)

Cant beat it !

That sounds delish. Can u give us the brand name, we don't have a Traders Joe store in Houston.

I wish we would get a Trader Joe's here in Houston! My Dad is always bringing me stuff from there when he visits me from Las Vegas.

Glad you guys brought this up! I've had the Lloyds brand from Krogers pre-band, and it's yummy. I never thought to get it now, figured the bbq is high in calories.. I'm going to have to buy some now! What an easy way to make dinner without the fuss.

I'm heading for Trader Joe's tomorrow! I can't get any chicken/turkey white meat down, but can work with the dark meat....never thought of trying the shredded bbq...

Thanks !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
