Bruising and dizziness/hot flashes

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I had gastric bypass on 1/31 and I am feeling ok other than having a gigantic bruise on my stomach around my belly button. It’s about 9in in diameter.

Also, for the last 2 days whenever I get up and walk around, I get very dizzy and have a hot flash. Is this common? Should I be concerned? Thanks for any advice.

Both can be caused by dehydration.
I know it’s hard to get an all of your Water the first two months. Try setting a timer on your phone to remind you to drink every 15 minutes. I still use my timer and I’m almost 5 years out from surgery.

dizziness can also be related to low blood pressure. It's not uncommon after bariatric surgery, and it's usually temporary. Just transition slowly when you're going from sitting or lying to standing up.

It's not uncommon to experience some bruising and swelling after gastric bypass surgery, but it's always best to check with your surgeon if you have any concerns. The bruise on your stomach could be due to the placement of the incisions or the handling of the tissues during the procedure.

Regarding the dizziness and hot flashes, it's possible that they could be related to low blood pressure, which can occur after surgery. This is because the body needs time to adjust to the changes in Fluid and electrolyte levels. It's also possible that you could be feeling fatigued or experiencing some dehydration, which can contribute to these symptoms.

It's important to follow your surgeon's instructions for post-operative care and to report any concerns to them as soon as possible. They will be able to evaluate your symptoms and determine the best course of action. In the meantime, make sure to drink plenty of fluids and rest as much as possible to help your body recover from the surgery.

My BP was SUPER low after bypass for about 2-3 weeks. It hit 85/50 at one point and then lingered around the 95/60 mark for quite a while. It did make me dizzy, but I did not experience the hot flash as far as I remember.

The area around my belly button hurt after bypass, but no big bruise. Were you given blood thinners? I think that can cause easier bruising.

The dizziness I address below in a reply to another comment - I believe mine was caused by low BP, which eventually resolved itself.

Sorry to hear that but raise with your surgeon for sure. My only bruising was on my arm from
The blood pressure artery thing they do and the anaesthesia, I look like a life long heroin addict there lol it’s finally fading

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
