I am 53 and I want to live. I was banded in Detriot, Michigan Oct. 16, 2007. The only thing that really hurt me was my left shoulder when I woke from surgery. I have frozen shoulder, a complication from diabetes. I tolerated the surgery well and flew back home to Virginia to start off my adventure in weight loss. The first couple of weeks went smoothly, then I started to get hungry. You see I thought when the band was put on it was already tight. So, I was quite suprised when I ate 12 oz. of pinto Beans without getting sick. I called my Dr., that is when I really listened to the way the lap band works. Oh I have to heal. Oh, I have to wait 6 weeks for a fill. That means i will have to drive all the way to Michigan to get my 1st fill. Well, I did it. I have a APL band. The Dr. gave me 4ml. I knew after the first day that I had no restriction. All the way home I was wondering why I could still eat.

That's when I realized that my band held 15ml.

My starting weight was 240. My first fill weight was 227. My second fill was Dec.12,2007 and I weighed 232. The Dr. gave me a 1.7. liquid diet for 2 days. No restriction.

I will get my 3rd fill tomorrow Dec.19,2007. I was very aggressive but polite in order to get this fill so quickly. I am moving to California Jan1,08 and could not imagine waiting to find another fill Dr. there, how much time that would take.

I'll check in tomorrow 12/19/07:faint::)

Sounds like you are keeping on top of things, and it is totally typical not to have restriction for a while when they first start filling you. I had NOTHING until my 3rd restriction and then it was "WHOA!!!! So THAT's what it's supposed to do!!!" If your doc has a flouro, request to be filled with that so they can really dial it in.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
