Vitamin Query

Recommended Posts

Post-op my dietician recommended Flintstones Complete to get my full nutritional supplement. I was only too happy to have childhood nostalgia and my daily necessary intake satisfied by a sugary, addictive little chew-able pill.

Now? Not so much. I stopped taking the pills shaped like Bam Bam and Pebbles a month ago because they were just disgusting. But I've run into a road block and my hair is falling out to boot. When I tried switching to a regular (read=horse-pill) Multi-Vitamin (Women's One a Day, etc...) I've gotten horribly, painfully sick. I think it's about the length of time it sits in my stomach pouch, like a control release pill.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where/how to get either liquid form, or know of another chewable (non-foul) multi-vitamin??

Any advice appreciated!

Centrum makes a liquid, but it makes me gag. You could try it. I'm working on the nasty chewables now. I don't know which is worse. I would love to hear someone say XYZ is the best Vitamin out there but so far no luck.

If you find something that is wonderful, please let me know.

Steph

TwinLabs one a day capsule with Iron. It dissolves real fast. I mean like within 2 minutes. There may be a little bit of a fishy burp afterwards but it is a great Vitamin and it is relatively cheap. Chase it down with a bottle of Water and it is flushed out of the pouch. It makes me "pee like a racehorse" though!:)

I take 2 flintstone Vitamins a day.

I was excited to take them again too.. and all was good.

Then I somehow bought the wrong ones (the box looked the same to me) and they were bigger and they are Flintstone vitamins COMPLETE.. and they taste like complete a$$.

I took them just not to be wasteful.. and went back to the old ones, the ones I liked as a kid. Flintstones + Iron. (NOT.. complete :) ) .

I also take a Biotin Vitamin when I remember to, doc said it could help with hair, and it does help with nails, and I later looked it up and it's a diet gimick vitamin pill too. So there's that.

I took the flintstone gummies for awhile - quite tasty but not really what I need :)

I am now taking Vitaband by Bariatric Advantage. I am on the watermelon flavor - not my favorite. I will purchase the lemon flavor next time. They are chalky and I just chew them up and drink a glass of Water afterwards.

Then I have a chocolate Calcium chew to treat myself for taking my Vitamins. I have (hopefully) attached a picture of their nutrients.

Good luck finding one!!

My DH bought me some very high quality liquid vitamins by Nature's Way after surgery. I swear that crap curled my toenails. I have never tasted anything so vile. I gagged it down for about a week and had to give it up. I was starting to get a gag reflex just smelling it. Now I'm on flintstones with Iron. Much easier to deal with, but I still feel I need more. I'll try some of your suggestions.

I tried Liquid Centrum and it is foul. I use Liquid Health as I have posted many times on LBT. I am actually going to try another liquid brand that I saw at the health food store that has higher dosages when I run out of LH. I also take their liquid Calcium and Kirkman's liquid Iron. Good luck!

Try the gummy vitamins. They are really good. No Vitamin taste at all. Just like the real thing. It says children over two to take two per day and the nutrition chart shows that adults get 1/2 the nutrition, so I take 4 -5 of them a day.

My doc's office recommended Solar Ray, which is a pill. If you can't take a pill, they suggested Glacial Milk. I live in a really small town and had to get it online. I don't use it any more, but tried it for a while. You take one shot a day. It tastes like concentrated orange juice. I didn't care for it, but some people mixed it with juice or Water and others just chugged it. Just another idea! Rose

I eat these: Adult'S chewable pineapple by Nature's Plus - VitaminShoppe.com

Only one per day necessary. pineapple flavor. They're not like candy or anything, but they aren't bad. I don't mind chewing them up and then just washing my mouth out with Water. No terrible aftertaste. Pretty good price for the quantity. I like them.

My doc's office recommended Citracal Creamy Bites. The lemon is nasty, the caramel and chocolate aren't half bad. Just make sure when you take your Calcium that you don't take it at the same time as your Multi-Vitamin because the Iron can interfere with absorbtion. And don't take more than 500 mg of calcium...your body can only handle that much at once.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
