Second Fill...

Recommended Posts

My 10 cc band came with a 3 cc fill during surgery, I got a 2 cc fill 12/4 and I just got my second 1 cc fill this morning. I ate my Kashi GoLean hot Cereal with no problems. In fact, I don't feel a thing. I felt more with my first fill but then they removed all the Fluid to see how much was in the band from surgery and then increased it by 2 cc and that probably did some "damage" and I was hurting. No pain now. I've lost 4 pound from the first fill according to their scales which don't match mine at all. I guess the test will be lunch. I was told I can eat fairly soft foods the day of the fills. It looks like the new bands do a better job when they are at least at 7 1/2 to 8 ccs according to this forum.

It will be interesting to see if anyone hits the "sweet spot" on their second fill.

Take care.

Ok. I had lunch. It was a cheese omlette and I had no more problems eating about 1/2 of it than I did before my second fill. It is almost like the second fill didn't happen. Dang. I had hoped for more of a difference. Does it take a while to register with my system that I had a fill? It surely didn't last time. Oh well. Onward and downward hopefully.

Take care

Oh gosh your second fill!!~! I haven't had my first yet. :) I do get mine on Wednesday though. I can't wait. I know that's what I need, since I have gained weight this week. :P

I am with you Wendy, my first fill is not scheduled until 1/3. I had lost kind of quickly; so at my postop appt my doc didn't schedule me until January. I am starting to get hungrier especially this week. I am having to diet through until the first fill.

Kandi

I think that sometimes it takes multiple fills to feel restriction. Also, sometimes the fill doesn't kick in for a few days/weeks. Good luck...it will happen.

Two days past my second fill and I am definitely feeling more restriction than I did initially. I can't eat as much as after the first fill but I can still eat more than I think I should. I've dropped another 2 pounds and so something must be working correctly. 2 more then I'll be in the fabulous Onederland!! Yeah!! I've added cherry essence and orange essence prunes to my snack venue and that has helped my weight loss I believe. I am sure I need at least another 1 cc to be at the "sweet spot."

Take care.

Kandice - Yeah, I read that the average is 3-4 fills. My surgeon at my post-op was hoping that I'd be restricted with my first or second fill since I was feeling a teensy bit of restriction 2 weeks post-op.

I went in for my 1st fill yesterday. She started with 5cc (took out my initial 3, then put back 5 total). I was having issues swallowing water! It was the weirdest feeling to not be able to get anything to go down. So she took out .5cc so I'm currently at 4.5. My 2nd fill is scheduled for mid-January. They wanted it to be another month before I get more added.

I'm on liquids for 2 days, then mushies for 2 more, then regular food. So I have no idea how my restriction is except that it kind of feels like I can feel the liquids gurgle through my stoma. Not sure. I hope to have a little bit of restriction because I was starting to feel like I was starving between meals before my first fill!

I had my first fill this past Monday and still can eat pretty much what I like. The doc's office said don't be surprised if it takes several fills. I have a 10cc band and they put 2 in. I go back on Jan. 3rd and I will get probably 1cc or.5 cc more than what I have now. I am anxious to see some weightloss because I gained around 5 pounds before my 1st fill and I haven't seen much weightloss with the first fill.

Also, another question. Since having the surgery, does anyone feel like they get serious belches that come out of nowhere but feel like they are coming up a huge well?;) They kind of crack me up but I hope that I am nowhere special when they hit since they are sometimes so unexpected.:nervous Just curious?

Heehee...YES...I'm really glad I'm not the only one. I don't even get the warning of it "coming up a huge well." I'll be in conversation with somebody and errrrrpppp. Man, it's embarrassing. I've never been one to be burping in front of anybody but my DH. Now I do it in mid-sentence without warning. Thankfully it's only been twice to people other than my DH. I'm usually very polite in talking to people, so this is an adjustment to me! LOL

Me, too! I guess it is a small price to pay to get to a healthy weight. I am always telling my husband and kids to say excuse me if they belch now I am the one having to watch myself.

Also, how are you doing with not drinking while eating?? It is very hard for me. Someone mentioned that once you get to your "sweet spot" you won't want to drink any liquids with your meal. It something I am really struggling with. Hopefully, that will be true once that happens.

Good luck. I'm sure we'll all get to where we need to be with time.

I don't drink with meals. I will say, though, that if I did have something available to drink at a meal, I would probably reach for it without thinking about it just because that's how I USED to eat. But because I have to eat standing up in the kitchen lately, no time to sit down at the table at a meal, I just eat. food container or plate in one hand, fork or spoon in the other. No hand left for a drink. It works for me.

I was really worried about the not drinking with meals before my surgery. In fact it was one of the top 3 things that worried me most about this whole procedure. I have always been a 2 to 3 glass of something while eating......kinda girl.....LOL

I have to admit everyone who talked to me before my surgery who had already been banded was RIGHT!! I do not even miss it. I know in my head that I have no room for liquid in the pouch with my food, and so I have resigned myself to that and now 6 weeks out I honestly can say I do not miss it.

I am still struggling to get in all of my liquid though, and that is my hardest challenge I do believe.

I get very thirsty and points through out the day.

I know this should only get better. I still have no hunger and am satisfied on three ounces of food 3 times a day with no snacking in between meals. I have 2 Protein shakes a day on mid morning and one mid afternoon.

That is it and I am definately losing and have not seen the scale move upwards not even once.

I am back to working out and feel great. Although my port is sore from the working out. I hope that gets better....LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
