The bariatric community, which again, you are a part of, has a reputation for being mean, cliquey and unwelcoming. This is why I stayed off this site for six months. Just saying. Grow up. Any of you who posted things about terminology, like the number of you who cannot understand what a tool is, really need to go back to grade school for comprehension. I'm over people being mean, and miserable behind a keyboard because they can. Some of you really need to start facing consequences for your negativity. Step on a lego and have the day you deserve. xoxo.
summerset 5,265 Posted February 10, 2023 Dear Sunshine Princess, the only person who's being really judgmental on this thread so far seems to be you. Quote Grow up. Any of you who posted things about terminology, like the number of you who cannot understand what a tool is, really need to go back to grade school for comprehension. This is at least bordering the line to insult if not crossing it and I'd recommend taking it down a notch or two (though you will most likely not doing this, practically no one posting in that style ever has). 5 smc124, GreenTealael, JessieJay85 and 2 others reacted to this

Step on a lego and have the day you deserve. xoxo. For the record, "gives you the ick" is a popular thought/discussion prompt currently, but you may not be familiar with it if you're not a frequent user of tiktok and tumblr, as I am. It's fine to not be familiar with something, it's not fine to imply that other people are somehow deficient or immature for using a slang term you're not familiar with. It's also entirely possible to be fully aware of and familiar with the meaning of a common word or phrase like "surgery is a tool" or "pouch" and still feel a level of frustration, annoyance, or other negative association with it because of its frequent use within a sub-group to the point of cliche, meaninglessness, or because of how it's frequently employed as a conversation stopper or thought-terminating cliche. Again, it doesn't mean the person who doesn't like the word is stupid or lacks reading comprehension. People don't dislike the word "moist" because they don't understand it means damp. I hope you have a good day, despite your insistence on implying a bunch of strangers engaging in a light-hearted discussion about memes within their cultural subgroup are stupid because they don't agree with you. IMO this hits the nail on the head. Many of the terms people mentioned in this thread are most likely giving them the cringe or ick not because someone said "journey" or "stall" but because of their overuse, often - as you already said - up to the point of meaninglessness. Conversation stopper and/or thought-terminating are also nailing it. 2 sillykitty and smc124 reacted to this
ms.sss 15,726 Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) Im sorry that the Angry OP is feeling bullied, or if they feel others are being bullied...as i think I can safely say for everyone that is/was not the intention 💔 I don't think anyone (other than AOP, ironically) targeted their respective angsts to anyone in particular? BUT in the interest of grace, OP is a relatively new member (who was inactive for 6 months) vs alot of us on this thread who are sort of BP old dogs, so we've had years to develop our icks to "overused" words and practices, while newer folks have only recently integrated them into their vernaculars. So i can see how she may have felt "targeted" for us expressing our distastes for words she may be using? We've all got different perspectives (which i think is a good thing!) In any case, i would just like to say I am far from miserable (quite the contrary actually) and in my humble opinion think that the BP forum community is actually one of the nicer, more supportive and friendly forums out there. ....aaaand SCENE. As you were. p.s. sorry this so long p.p.s. to the OP in question: sorry if anything i said made u feel bad, i can see how u may have felt bad if u use the words i put down. ❤️ perhaps disclaimers were needed. p.p.p.s. to the ORIGINAL OP of this thread: I still enjoyed participating and getting a chance to vent. Further, I am 50 years old and "ick" is a regular part of my vocabulary. ❤️ EDITED TO ADD: i took a moment just now to read a bit of OP's activity history...kinda gives a bit more perspective where they were coming from. 😕 Edited February 10, 2023 by ms.sss 2 JessieJay85 and Arabesque reacted to this

smc124 118 Posted February 10, 2023 I’ll add another ick. To keep us trending… Rn for me it’s milk of magnesia. I know that’s not bari specific but just thinking about the taste makes me shudder. I’ll also add in a generic annoyance with seeing people treat me more kindly or graciously since my weight loss has become noticeable…ick
summerset 5,265 Posted February 10, 2023 Well, that milk of magnesia stuff looks a bit like barium suspension, so...

GreenTealael 25,439 Posted February 10, 2023 Adding the term Glow Up to the “ick” list. Idk why exactly but mainly because it’s over used. 1 smc124 reacted to this

I always think of barium suspension as one of the better tasting oral contrast agents. There is the one that smells like licorice but tastes really nasty and one that's supposed to have a taste like oranges but is equally nasty. The worst I ever tasted was something that smelled like peppermint toothpaste. Dear mother of God... I always use i. v. contrast agents. They taste of almost nothing.
