Dizziness (4wks post op)

Recommended Posts

Hi there - I’m 4wks post op and I’m dizzy when I stand most days. I initially thought it was dehydration but I went to urgent care on NYE due to feeling crappy, dizzy and tired. They took labs and stated that my labs were fine but that I was probably slightly dehydrated based on my symptoms but nothing severe. They gave me fluids via IV and I did feel better. However, the dizziness when standing is still an issue. I thought that it was because I missed my blood pressure medicine but I’m back on that and still get dizzy.

Could this a symptom while healing from the surgery? Does it get better with time?

that's actually pretty common. It's usually due to blood pressure changes - and it usually goes away after awhile. I used to have that occasionally my first few months post-op. Just get up slowly. Here's an article on it: (oh - I just read you're on blood pressure medication. It could be that, too - some people have to have their dosage changed after having WLS). Here's the article on orthostatic hypotension, though - seems to be fairly common the first few months after WLS:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/orthostatic-hypotension/symptoms-causes/syc-20352548#:~:text=Orthostatic hypotension — also called postural,or lightheadedness and possibly fainting.

you're welcome! Do run it by your PCP, though, in case it's because the dosage of your blood pressure med needs to be changed - that'll sometimes cause it, too - but i'm betting on orthostatic hypotension since it seems to be very common the first few months after WLS.

I second this, blood pressure.

I had a huge issue with this for a few months. Passed out once, and almost passed out multiple times.

My blood pressure is still always on the low side, but not low enough for concern or side effects.

Talk with your PCP and they will help you get it worked out. Mine pointed out that my sodium intake was almost nothing (literally under 200 g a day! when we should be getting around 2000g) So he had me increase my sodium, which was hard at first because I do not use salt at all when I cook and was limiting snacking. I figured it out and so far so good.

Thank you. Crazy thing is my BP still seems to be running on the high side (147/82) so not sure. I’m definitely going to schedule an appt with my PCP to discuss. I have started Pedialyte to help keep me hydrated. Thanks

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
