Studio54 27 Posted January 2, 2023 Well. I have had the most traumatic experience and I need to vent. I am almost 2 years post op RNY. December 15 I went to work as usual, by 230pm was in the ER with excruciating abdominal pain. That evening had emergency open abdominal surgery for the dreaded internal hernia / small bowel obstruction. Spent 5 nights in the hospital. Happy to be home for Christmas - but just a week later landed back in hospital for another partial small bowel obstruction! Thank god it resolved on it’s own. But now I am PARANOID to say the least. On blenderized food for 2 weeks… praying this is a one time deal. Looks like this happens in 8-10% of patients (lucky me). Any advice? Has this happened to anyone else? 2 2 Tomo, Arabesque, Jeanniebug and 1 other reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted January 2, 2023 it's pretty uncommon, but I do know it can happen. My mother-in-law (not a WLS patient) had that happen. She went into the hospital with one bowel obstruction, had surgery, and then had to go back maybe a month later for another one - had another surgery. It's been about two years, though, and so far so good - it hasn't come back. Hopefully it'll be the same for you. Sorry you're going through this!! 1 Arabesque reacted to this
kerrik54304 35 Posted April 15, 2023 Just came to search this. I had internal hernia repair today. I think I might have caught mine before you or it was different. I was on the ER a few months back with severe abdominal pain and had pain again on Monday. Had a CT scan yesterday and the DR called last night and wanted me in for surgery today because I had a twisted bowel, no obstruction yet. The surgery was outpatient today. Definitely a scary experience. I am 18 months out from surgery. The Dr said it is not uncommon in patients who are successful with weight loss surgery and have lost a lot of weight, especially in a short amount of time. 1 learn2cook reacted to this
