Couch to 5K

whosya! I am right there with you! Today I also ran 35 mins and walked 5. I ran 3.20 miles. So i ran the 3 and walked the 2.0. I officially run 5Ks. Yup, I'm a runner. I only hope to get the "runner's nod" like you!

Kay- yeah, tell me how that book is, I am interested. I don't know if i will ever be an outdoor runner. I have now injured my knee somehow. I noticed it hurting in Rome, we walked and walked and walked some more, and it went away over christmas and now today it started bothering me again. it's on the outside of it, almost feels as if something is catching in there. I hope I don't have a torn maniscus(sp?). My husband has that in both knees, and has had one clipped so far and needs the other done, and it's a very painful recovery.

LA- Thats a great idea to double up. In the first few weeks you may surprise yourself and not need to double up. That's awsome that you signed up for the 5k!

Wombat- I do do leg exercises the same day that I run. I do get injured a lot it seems so I'm not sure if it's good to work out your legs after running. I have a problem with shin splints a lot and now my right knee is killing me.

OWWWWEEEEE!!! I had a fill today, and my port area is super sore, to the point that I can't walk without pain. Every little movement that causes my big tummy to jiggle causes awful pain. The doc missed on the first try, and dug around in there with the freaking needle, and finally had to take it out and stick me again. In between sticks, I made the mistake of looking over at him, and I looked at the needle, which usually doesn't freak me out, but this time, I thought the needle looked very similar to a coffee stirrer, and I thought I might pass out. Not a good experience, but I got my fill.

Anyway, all that to say, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this awful bruising and pain to go away more quickly so I can get back to my Couch to 5K program? No way I'm getting on the treadmill like this.

travelgirl- sorry for the fill pain! That sounds awful. No I'm not sure on how to ease it. Sorry. It may just have to heal on its own. You could ice it i guess.

I told him beforehand "NO DIGGING!" And he numbed me up first, and then dug around in there anyway. FINALLY after about 5 minutes of misery, he withdrew and stuck me again. Hit it right away on the second try. If he'd just done that to begin with, I'd be fine. It's really swollen today, right around the injection spot, and very tender to the touch. I really wanted to get back into the swing of things, especially with a fill! I need a jump start on my weight loss.

How is everyone else coming on their own couch to 5k programs? Maybe the swelling and pain will go down enough that I can hit it tomorrow. I will try the ice today, and see if that helps.

Did day 3 of Week 2 today  It was pretty tough - we had a cold front come in and the wind was awful outside. It made the run so much harder!

I ran yesterday! I took some Tylenol, and pushed through the pain. Since I didn't do very much last week, I'm repeating week 1 this week.

5k run again today. i shaved 2 mins off my time. I did intervals on the treadmill. 4.5 for 2 mins and then 5.5 for one minute at a time.

I seem to burn more calories when I alternate speeds.

wombat great job finishing up week 2. a few more weeks and you will love running

Back from vacation & did manage to get my 3 days of running in @ Wk2. Not easy, considering too many "beverages" - but managed to loose a pound and not pig out.

Starting the grind of wk 3 today - hopefully the sounds/smell of the gym get me moving & back to reality.

thanks sweethot

I'm hoping to find the love soon!!!! I did lose 2 pounds this week so I'm attributing that to jogging (and NOT eating chocolate)!!

Go Wombat!!!

Posted on another thread, but do any of ya know of a good sports bra? The running is killing the "girls" (I'm a 34DD). I'm wearing my bra plus the sports bra to smoosh them down good - but I still get the pain of the bouncy bounce, short of using duck tape to strap them down.

Thanks,

checking in...away on buisness again but i did find a local YMCA.. did a 5k today.

hey sweethot when you do your 5k time do you include the 5 min warm up walk in it?

I had way less trouble doing 5k today...and...i kicked two little 19yr old barbies butts who were running with me trying to keep up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
