Laneeb23 0 Posted December 16, 2022 Hey guys! I'm three weeks post- op from Gastric Sleeve. Just curious as to if anyone else has had something called Water nausea? I have not been able to drink water in any form (iced, room temperature, hot, flavored, etc...) without it coming back up the second it hits by stomach. The only fluids I have been able to keep down are Gatorade zero or tea with no calorie sweetener. Recently, Gatorade zero has also become like water to the extent where it makes me sick or very nauseous. Also, I'm in the soft foods and I was told I should be eating at least a quarter of a cup of soft foods, but I can't get through one bite that's smaller than my pinky nail without having an intense pain in the center of my upper stomach below the sternum. The pain has convinced me that eating in general just isn't worth it and I have the same issue when it comes to Protein Shakes. Has anybody experienced this and have any helpful advice? I've had to get fluids for the two weeks and my doctor says it's all normal, but it's causing me to spiral into a pit of depression because everyone I've talked to has said they never experienced anything like this and therefore can't give me advice. loridee11 522 Posted December 16, 2022 Hi Laneeb23, Unfortunately I didn't experience this so I can't give you advice beyond go back to your team (this does not sound normal). I just wanted to say I'm so sorry and I trust it will get better for you! Lori 1 Laneeb23 reacted to this
SpartanMaker 930 Posted December 17, 2022 It's not unusual to have trouble with certain liquids, so as long as you're able to keep at least something down, I'm guessing that's why your team isn't overly concerned. Now if you couldn't keep any liquids down and it lasted more than a day or so, that would be considered a medical emergency. Separately, the intense pain on eating is concerning. That's not normal at all, so I'd be pushing them on that. Especially when combined with the liquid issue, I have to wonder if you may have a stricture or maybe some other complication. Laneeb23 0 Posted December 17, 2022 I have had a new update. I took one sip of Protein Shake less than a teaspoon and got physically sick immediately after. I’ve waited about an hour and a half and I tried again and got sick once again. I have been able to drink liquids until today. Not much though. It takes me a full day to drink one of the miniature Gatorade zero bottles. I wasn’t even able to get THAT much down today before getting sick and when I do it’s just foam. Tomo 1,195 Posted December 17, 2022 Nothing about that sounds normal to me. Here is a red flag to watch out for, if you can't keep Water down, it may be a stricture. If your surgeon is still acting as if everything is normal, go to the ER or to another doctor.
summerseeker 2,249 Posted December 17, 2022 Could be a stricture as people have said and this is a easy fix. Hope you are feeling better soon
Char V 52 Posted December 17, 2022 I had stricture. It’s not fun. I was on liquids for 4 weeks. Couldn’t tolerate Water at all. Even now my water has to be flavoured. I was on hydralite icy poles to help. It was a hit and Miss to what I tried. The dr gave me domperidone( anti nausea medication) I took it twice a day. then tried soft foods but it had to be sloppy. 3 1/2months down the track and I’m still on soft or sloppy foods. A lot of fruit shakes and Protein Shakes. I had to go back in to have my oesophagus ballooned. This stopped my “foaming” but I was also limited to no more then 200mls per sitting. 1 summerseeker reacted to this
qtdoll 535 Posted December 17, 2022 Agreed with everyone else. This sounds much more than just a simple Water sensitivity. I hope doctors are able to help you!
