I have been snacking alot more lately. It seems like I am much more hungry now. I have been eating faster lately. I noticed I eat slower when I am out with friends. Do you think its possible that my snacking is related to eating too fast?

I do the opposite, I often eat more quickly when I’m out with others. I notice my pace speeds up to keep up their eating. I have to consciously, put my cutlery down & sit back from the table. At home, I take ages to eat - 30-60 minutes.

Don’t know if eating quickly is related to causing additional snacking other than you may get full more quickly before your tummy gets a chance to start to digest what you’ve eaten. Does your restriction kick in? Does it stop you eating all your regular portion? If so you may feel hungry again because you haven’t eaten enough & then you snack. If you don’t/can’t eat all your portion, snack on that rather than less nutritious foods.

But yes, as we progress we are able to eat more which is how it should be until you get to about an accepted regular portion size when your weight stabilises. Have a chat with your dietician.

I noticed that about myself too and I’d hit a long plateau/maintenance phase. Someone on here suggested an app named Chlow and now I stopped snacking and weight is beginning to move down again. Keep trying what works for you. Best

Yes my restriction kicks in and I do stop eating but am usually hungry about 1 hour later.

Hopefully I will figure out what is triggering the hunger/snacking.

I don't have a dietician, my health plan gives you a book for their patients to follow and the dieticians they do have do not have experience with bariatric patients. and give not so great advice.

I'll probably have to pay out of pocket for a tailor made plan.

I tend to eat on the fast side but I think snacking is more associated with (unless real hunger) eating out of boredom, distraction, emotional eating or those under psychological distress or stress.

i am also a slow eater, regardless what setting I am in. I've conditioned myself i guess to eat slowly because if i eat to fast my fullness will kick in unexpectedly and i would be at best uncomfortable, at worst pain. so i try to avoid that as much as possible.

the times i do eat "fast" (which is probably regular pace for "regular" people), is when I am particularly hungry, and yep i almost always pay for it.

now in terms of snacking, i am probably one of those people who basically snack all day. I don't really have set meals, i kinda just pick at "meals" over several hours, or just a whole bunch of mini (micro?)-meals, cuz i do get hungry since don't really eat much in one sitting. At the end of the day though, i am still more or less at the calorie level needed to maintain my weight right now, so its working for ME.

is your snacking causing you to eat more calories over all?

Eating fast is my main issue. Idk if mine stems from my old food addiction but I tend to have a problem making my meals last more than 15mins. I think I just get too excited to eat, it doesn't cause me to overeat but I do think it's part of my mental process.

Maybe yours has to do with that too? There may be something we both have to address mentally with our relationship with food.

What I recently started doing is to cut down the amount of carbs daily and it has helped. I have went back to using a timer to slow down my eating.

I have a bad habit of waiting until I'm famished to eat anything which definitely causes me to eat faster...so I've been trying to avoid doing that. About the only consistent way I've found of slowing down my eating is to count how many times I chew things which gets tedious especially if you're eating with someone.

I'm the opposite. I'm too busy running my mouth so my eating slows way down when I'm with someone. LOL

Yes

perhaps reduce the size of your "regular" meals to accommodate the snacking?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
