MG83 6 Posted December 12, 2022 Hey Everyone, I have noticed that since my surgery I have been menstruating irregularly and multiple times a month, I have read that it could be because of hormones and the weight loss itself but I am just wanting to see if other people have had similar experiences. KimA-GA 540 Posted December 12, 2022 bariatric surgery often comes with period changes.. irregular can happen easily during rapid weight loss due to the estrogen which is stored in fat being released.. 11/3 surgery and my period arrived a couple days early 11/4 (31 days) .. my usual has been around 40 days most of this year so it’s due now but so far no sign (but i have been having mood swings which may indicate it) last week i had some bad hormonal breakouts of acne and my chin hair has been disappearing lol
catwoman7 11,220 Posted December 13, 2022 happens to a lot of women. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and you're going to be burning through fat pretty quickly the first few months. It releases those hormones - which can cause irregular cycles and mood swings for some. It'll stabilize after awhile. 1 Arabesque reacted to this
kcuster83 1,504 Posted December 13, 2022 Very common, you can talk to your surgeon or OBGYN about it and they can likely help. I know a few people that theirs became so irregular it was unbearable that their surgeon intervened with medical treatment. Although, I don't know the details. I am regular, but I am on birth control so I don't know if that helps it or if I am just one of the lucky ones that WLS didn't affect my cycle.
pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted December 13, 2022 Extremely common; I didn't get a period for almost 3 months early in my recovery process and it's still a tad "irregular".
