Exercise

Recommended Posts

So what does everyone like to do for exercise? What do you find works the best? What did you used to do when you were in good shape that gave you good workouts? The biggest bang for your buck?

I have been doing the recumbent bike but, with my bodybugg, have found out that I burn more calories being upright - like walking or dancing, although I have the bike on a high enough setting so that I'm actually creating a lot of muscle tone in my legs.

After holidays I'm going to try jogging on the treadmill - wait, did I say I was going to jog? :omg:

Hi Linda:

I am back at swimming and my Water aerobics classes. I have to say I love this because it is so easy to do in the Water. I feel like I get a great workout without all the sweat....LOL

I know after a month of this I will be even more of a new woman, because this has always given me tons of energy.

Hugz,

I've always been good at running, even though I hate it, but love the way I feel when I am done.

I go to the gym at least five times a week since my surgery on 11/1 and I work with a trainer for two of those days. When I do cardio, I have to at least do 45 mins of whatever (bike, treadmill, stair climber) to notice a difference on the scale. I have a very strong lower body, and my legs tone faster than the rest of my body.

Last year, I wanted to train for the marine corps marathon but I developed a foot injury...so I am hoping I can at least do half a marathon sometime next year if I start now and train well non stop...

I have been walking mostly (not every day) but did have a couple of nights of dancing which was great... always lose weight after a night out dancing. I also love aqua aerobics so will start up again in the new year. Anything to help shift the weight.

I love the elliptical. I used to go to the gym to work out on one but I'm going to purchase one sometime this week so that I can work out every day. I just can't make myself drive to the gym every day. It kills an hour and a half for 45 minutes of exercise. I'll use my home elliptical for my daily cardio and use the gym to go for the weight machines and the sauna. :)

I signed up for a 1000 minutes of exercise in January challenge on OH so that should be fun and hopefully motivating.

I've been working out on my recumbent exercise bike. I've been selecting the calorie program and burning 300 calories at a time, which takes me just under an hour. I also have an elliptical and a home gym. I'm going to see the physical trainer who works in my surgeon's office on January 18 when I get my next fill and put together a program that uses all of my equipment. This gal was one of my doctor's lapband patients and she looks amazing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
