I have started something now

Recommended Posts

I just made the decision to have the Lap Band surgery this weekend. I Started the ball rolling. My surgeon will be Dr. Laura Machado. I have the referral in the works and I have already talked to my insurance company. I am all set up. All I had to say was yes. I am so glad that I finally came to this decision. And you know the best part is that I can play Softball again. Well not withstanding the health risks that have managed to sneak up on me such as High blood pressure, higher cholesterol, and a hairs breath away from diabetes, not to mention my PCOS, those should all get better too that is a plus.

I am excited. I am not a patient person, I am scared, but I want to do this very much. I have done the research, and watched the procedure (thanks Youtube) Now all I want is personal stories, things that you don't get from the research. I can't wait to meet and talk with you all.

Welcome Misspeesh! I have PCOS too and I have already seen a big difference. I'm having a regular period every month, I'm not as tired, and my mood swings are a little bit better. I think it will get even bettter with time. I used to play softball as well and I really miss being active and having fun. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!

You sound just like me. I read an ad on the band in a magazine in March. Within three weeks I had a surgery date and was doing huge amounts of research online. I consider myself a success story with the band and I am more than happy...I am THRILLED with what I have accomplished in the last 7 months. My life has changed in unimaginable ways. I work closely with my band and listen to what it tells me. We have a Fluid partnership and I think we're working together pretty darned well. Welcome to bandland.

HI Misspeesh,

We have the same doc! My question is, did they tell you about the program fee?

i found a doctor that doesn't have a program fee. they are hard to find. now the hard part is waiting for my insurance to approve my surgery. i don't know how you guys get your surgery dates so quickly. I have had to jump through hoops and get hmmm - four clearances - cardio, nutirionist, psych, pcp diet monitoring. did you do all of that in three weeks or did yo not have to go through that?

enjoylife,

We all have to jump through hoops, some more than others. And it depends on your insurance and what they require. The clearances are required by any "good" doctor to make sure your body can withstand the surgery as a whole. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
