Pain on left side stomach and back

Recommended Posts

It could be something as simple as gas (colic) or a strained muscle. Try a heat pad & see if it helps. Any associated temperature, vomiting, nausea or tenderness in the area? If so a visit to a medical centre may be best. Same if the pain persists or isn’t alleviated by the heat pad.

Hello everyone! I got my surgery 11/23 and I’m getting pain on my left side by my stomach radiates to my back. The pain does come and go, is this normal?

I am having similar but mine is in my left shoulder. I was not aware that gas could settle there so i have been paying attention to when it comes and goes, i am pretty sure mine is gas pains. Once i am able to pass the gas, i notice the pain goes away but then comes back when i consume my liquids if i am not sure to slow waaaay down on the consumption rate. If you feel uncomfortable about what it is i would definitely contact the Dr and see what they recommend.

I used to have that left side pain and a burning sensation, my team explained that the bigger incision since its deeper it is stitched using a muscle and that some movements cause that pain. After that made sense to me, I do not even feel it.

Do ask your team to make sure and track any other changes to be safe.

No other symptoms, it does go away with gas relief medication, I see my doctor tomorrow and see what they say!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
