I’ve been a hot mess on this liquid diet.

I’ve never done well with diets hence my need for this surgery. I had two slices of pizza today and some chocolate too. Such a mess

I'm so sorry you are struggling so. It is not easy! I am on day 7 today so feel you!

Try relaxing, distracting yourself by staying busy with things you enjoy besides food, drinking your shakes on a schedule 3- 4 daily and constantly drinking your low/non caloric drinks (broth, non decaf/ herbal tea or coffee, crystal light, sugar free sports drinks, Protein Water, ) As well as sugar free Popsicles (and anything else allowed on your program.

Increasing activity/walking can also help. Split this into several mini walks.

And don't hesitate to reach out to your friend, family and your dietitian/program support for additional help and tips. Don't be frightened to ask for help. This is a difficult process and you are not the first or last to be finding it such a struggle. Have faith in yourself. You CAN do this! We all need the support of others! Please help yourself and do what you've done here and ask for more support from thise directly involved with you today and who can impact you short term. Good luck. Praying for your strength, patience and SUCCESS!

Stick to your pre-op diet best possible. It might be hard, but after surgery all those cravings go away really quickly. Weight loss feels controlled, stable, and predictable.

The first week I was tired and had discomfort from gas in my body cavity that felt intense but was gone at the end of week. I spent much on the first week in bed resting.

The second week post surgery was my stomach acid week I’d wake up at 5am and feel like I had a belly full of acid. Not super painful, just annoying and that symptom went away at the end of week two. I was back to work and up and about week 2 but sleep early or naps in the afternoon.

Week 3 is when my progress allowed me to move on the soft Proteins. What was most noticeable this week is that occasionally I would get extremely dizzy with the room spinning. I realized this was due to seasonings or Condiments with minimal sugars but the first sugars I had experienced since surgery. Those first 2-3 grams of sugar /food iwould cause my my insulin to over compensate and my blood sugar would drop real low. That happened for about a week and a half 1-2 times a day and then my body adjusted and I haven’t experienced it since. I also experienced a bit of nausea at this time as I tried new foods and learned to slow down eating but never have actually threwup.

I’m two months out now. Only remaining symptom is light fatigue and occasional nausea as a reaction to eating something new or eating to fast. But it’s super tolerable and not as bad as it might sound.

ALL OF THIS TO SAY: some of the initial symptoms may seem miserable or annoying in the moment while your body is adjusting to your surgery, but understand most of them will pass in a week or so they aren’t there for the long term.

Be kind to yourself, allow yourself to rest, and focus on your Protein and hydration above all else. You got this!

Hey how long were you out from work. I m doing a revision, before I was out 6wks. Now I at different job. Maybe 2wks or 3 .

I’m home! Actually came home yesterday, surgery was Mar 1. 7 little holes from the robot.

Doing ok, pain manageable, sipping.

The worst part was the gas pains…like elephant on your chest. For me, the pain gave me nausea, but they got it in check. Incision pain was almost nil, just felt like too many sit-ups.

I’m on day 6 of liquids for Breakfast and lunch and a 400 calorie dinner. Only craved food yesterday when I saw the “word” of a particular food, and it triggered a desire for it lol.

I’ve lost 6-8 lbs in the 6 days, just depends what my starting weight was exactly.

My surgery is next week Wednesday and I had a scare this week where I had to redo one of my labs. I nearly had a breakdown (it was also my birthday) as I felt so overwhelmed. But feeling better since then as my lab test came back normal now.

If it is not too difficult or stressful for you, I say go and enjoy yourself but drink your Protein prior and enjoy sipping on your teas, broths, etc while they eat and you all socialize. I am on day 10 of 14 and took my son to dinner for his birthday last week with family and did exactly that and was so glad that I went and enjoyed myself. It didn't bother me at all nor anyone else as they understood (many of whom I didn't feel the need to explain the full situation but simply if asked why I wasn't eating I explained I had an upcoming medical procedure and was on a very limited diet. No questions asked. Enjoy yourself! You can't stop living! This is only the beginning of life-long changes when we will not be able to eat as others do. Good luck and be strong. This is your life, live it! ❣️

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
