January 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Recommended Posts

I am getting nervous almost ready to back out. I am terrified. I am worried about pain leaks and complications. I just do not want to regret this. Gastric sleeve surgery scheduled for Jan 16 2023.

I had my sleeve done on 1/16, too! It’s been a few days and I’m happy to be home and feeling more normal. It’s been a steep learning curve but I’ve felt pretty good so far. How are my other 1/16 buddies feeling?

Hello everyone my Gastric sleeve surgery was January 19th. I was super nervous and anxious. Dealing with slight soreness and some surgical pain. I'm @ the 30g of Protein range and roughly 50L of fluids. This two week phase is going to be tough. I'm glad to see that there's a place where we can look for support when needed.

I go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off. I had my post-op today. I'm down 18 lbs from the day of surgery. I'm feeling great and getting my 60+ g of Protein in and tons of Water. I do 2oz of soft foods every 2 hours. Today my BP was 114/70 and I haven't been on BP meds since 2 days before surgery. I sort of feel like that's a huge NSV already!

Hello, I guess I can day I feel great. I'm still hurting in my stomach, but it's getting better. I weighed 338 pounds the first visit to the weight loss management center Oct.19th, 2022. Surgery was January 9th, 2023. As of January 28th, 2023, my weight is 297 pounds. Still have some work to do. The good thing about all of this is that I'm walking, standing, and sleeping more than I've done in more than 15 years. I don't post a lot but I will try to do better. 20221221_114021.jpg 20230128_084025.jpg

Had my surgery on January 16th. I'm just starting the pureed diet. I'm down 16.2 lbs since the surgery but seem to be hitting the stall. Kinda stuck at the 273 mark. I'm walking for 30 minutes a night on the treadmill and I'm consuming very close to 900 calories a day. My major concern at this point is that I haven't really had that stuffed/full feeling. I can't identify at all with not being able to eat and ounce or two. I wish I did. It makes me feel like maybe I was left with a larger sleeve. I will say that I haven't felt very hungry and I do have to remind myself that I should eat something. The one thing that I have to improve upon is my Water intake.

My dietitian said that if we aren't feeling the "full" signal slow down on the meal. No more than 30 min a meal (because then it goes into our drinking time). And to always measure out food out. Don't eat more than the 2oz or 1/4 cup even if you can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
